Inasmuch as Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon's 2010 gubernatorial candidacy has been a recent topic of WCF discussion, we think it appropriate to note this morning's Di Lewis story, which reports that Emerald City was the second venue in yesterday's Corroon campaign gubernatorial candidacy announcement tour:
• Corroon stumps in Junction CityNotably, Mayor Corroon was greeted by "...a small crowd huddled Tuesday afternoon outside the Ogden Municipal Building, braving the cold to listen to Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon...;" and Boss Godfrey apparently didn't even have the graciousness to bother to step outside to say "howdy-do" to his mayoral colleague. Having said this however, we do realize that graciousness has never been Boss Godfrey's "strong suit."
In that connection we'll invite any of our readers who may have attended Mayor Corroon's Emerald City pit-stop to chime in with your own impressions, observations or other details which might not have made it into Ms. Lewis's morning report.
The floor's open, O Gentle Ones.

I'd certainly be curious to know whether Godfrey's father-in'law, Ed Allen, a very prominent Weber County Democrat, attended the event.
The caption for the picture in the print version of SE says that Peter is crossing 25th Street to his event - but the site is really Washington Blvd.
I think Matt was waiting for Peter on 25th street, as the SE indicated.
The mayor is noticeably absent at a lot of events that he should probably attend. So much for building bridges and good will for Ogden. His small- mindedness is numbing.
A skillful handler might have directed Corroon to be photographed buying a taco at one of the local carts. (Oops, has the exile gone into effect?) Or better yet, to duck into one of the sandwich shops on 25th, grab lunch, and leave a big tip.
As indicated before, the biggest statewide issue to run on is Ethics Reform for our politicians. If the current culture and powers that be are dumb enough to continue to deny that Ethics reform should be a priority in Utah, they can be beaten up all day and forever on that position.
Sorry, guys. You're wrong about this one. Mr. Caroon's visit was a partisan political event staged as part of his election campaign. The Mayor's presence at it could have been seen as an endorsement, however tepid, of his candidacy. If I were so abandoned to all intelligence and decency that I became a Republican mayor [shudder], and a Democratic candidate for the governorship staged a rally outside my city hall, I wouldn't have shown up either.
Hizzonah makes enough mistakes, shoots himself in the foot and embarrasses the city often enough, that we don't have to stretch to find things to criticize him for. Not showing at a Democratic gubernatorial candidate's campaign rally is not one of them.
John Patterson, accompanied by someone blonde, was there. Also present were Jesse Garcia and Lou Shurtliff.

Come now, Curmudgeon. There's a big difference between a gentlemanly gesture welcoming to Emerald City the Mayor of the most populous local entity in Utah... and a campaign endorsement.
Your comment just perpetuates the grade-scool polarization between the Utah GOP and the Demo faction.
Well, we disagree on this one. If the candidate had been an elected statewide official, say the incumbent governor, I'd agree with you. But he's only a mayor, just like Hizzonah, and he was on a campaign swing. No greeting necessary under those circumstances.
Again, Hizzonah provides us, unfortunately, with half a herd a week, it seems, of reasons to question his judgment and competence. Raising a stink about his not showing at a Democratic mayor's campaign rally in Ogden is a stretch.
That was his wife, OL.
As you might have guessed, OL and I were there. Steve Olson was hosting. Neil Hansen was also there. I did not see Ed Allen, but I may not have recognized him. Both Fair Boundaries and Ethics Reform were represented, too.
