College students, parents of college students and college perfessers are encouraged to give Dan's article a good long look.

It's so nice to see a professor that not only recognizes the problem, but is also trying to do something about it. You are a good man Dan. Purchasing my son's books every semester is something that has just made me sick. We've scrimped and pinched just so he could attend college early, but when I buy books I just can't help thinking of how many "good" books I could buy for that price, books the whole family could enjoy, that would be read over and over. Not a book that costs more than a weeks worth of groceries for a family of 7. A book that seems to be always a new edition, or part of a shrink wrapped deal, that I know will have no value for a buy back. It's just such a waste. Economically and environmentally. Like a scam that it is mandatory to participate in if you want your child to make it in the world. It's just not right.
Dan is a true treasure with his tireless crusades to right the wrongs and point out the foibles and corruptions inherent in society.
I have some old college physics and astronomy books that I would be willing to part with for half the price of what he uses now. They are from my daze at the fountain of knowledge. They even include info on the newly discovered Pluto. There is also a chapter speculating that the Sun is actually the center of the solar system!

Totally off-topic: Thanks to a Facebook tip from Cal Grondahl, I see that Glen Warchol's blog at the Trib is being killed:
Glen Warchol: Adios
Is this yet another example of newspaper self-censorship?
