Bad news for a politically ambitious county attorney who'd like to get this case wrapped up prior to the November election, we guess
Both the
Standard-Examiner and
Salt Lake Tribune report this morning the latest development in the
Matthew Stewart shootemup matter. Just as
we predicted back in April, Stewart's July 18-20 preliminary hearing has been called off:
Sure as shootin', County Attorney Dee Smith's crack prosecution team opposed the defense motion to take this important hearing off calender, just as they've reflexively opposed every motion the defense has filed in this case, meritorious or not. The fact that a
gut-shot defendant who's undergone emergency abdominal surgery will be stuck in intensive care for a couple of weeks, and recuperating for an undetermined time after that, apparently ain't good enough for a
politically ambitious county attorney who'd like to get this case wrapped up prior to the November election, we guess.

Don't be such a pantywaist, Rudi. Stewart could have easily attended the originally scheduled three day hearing, wheeled into the courtroom and strapped to a gurney.
Seen how ballistics still has yet to be released which will be vital evidence, I don't see how there could have been a hearing in the first place.
I read somewhere they think ballistics will be released July 1.
