Dallas Morning News Declines to Endorse GOP Nominee for First Time Since 1964

"Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote," opines the "reddest" editorial board in possibly the reddest state in America

    Via NBC News:
The editorial page of the Dallas Morning News is declining to back the Republican presidential nominee for the first time since 1964.
In a scathing editorial, the paper wrote that Donald Trump is "at odds with nearly every GOP ideal this newspaper holds dear. "
"We have no interest in a Republican nominee for whom all principles are negotiable, nor in a Republican Party that is willing to trade away principle for pursuit of electoral victory," the paper wrote. "Trump doesn't reflect Republican ideals of the past; we are certain he shouldn't reflect the GOP of the future. Donald Trump is not qualified to serve as president and does not deserve your vote."
The missive comes as a new poll from the Washington Post shows a dead heat among voters in Texas, a traditionally red state.

Tell Rep. Bishop: Protect Our Public Lands – Not BIG OIL!

You know what to do.  Do it on the internet

    Via Western Values Project:

Rep. Rob Bishop’s public lands plan puts special interests ahead of what’s best for Utah – no surprise, given that 93% of his campaign contributions come from out-of-state special interests like Big Oil. Don’t believe what he said at the Congressional field hearing in Bears Ears.

Salt Lake Tribune: Case Against Former Utah A.G. Mark Shurtleff Is Off; Swallow Prosecution Still On

Corruption case » Judge drops charges against ex-Utah A.G.; taxpayers off the hook for legal bills

As a followup to our coverage of the long-extended Mark Shurtleff public corruption matter, it's with considerable disappointment that we report the latest news.

Here's this morning's Salt Lake Tribune lede, Peeps:
A state judge dismissed criminal public corruption charges against Mark Shurtleff on Wednesday, ending the former Utah attorney general's two-year legal tussle.
Third District Judge Elizabeth Hruby-Mills signed the order, citing a state motion seeking the dismissal from the chief prosecutor, Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings.
The dismissal was granted without prejudice, meaning the case could be filed again, although that seems unlikely.
    "#Hallelujah! #Justice! #gratitude," Shurtleff, a three-term attorney general, exclaimed on Twitter.
Read the full story here, Gentle Readers:
Trib reader Caveat Emptor 100 nails it, wethink:
We, voters, may never find out enough information to validate the Davis County Prosecutor's decision. Certainly, the Supreme Court's decision in tossing VA Governor Mc Donald's prosecution is an important factor [citation added] ......
Remember, being a scumbag , accepting bribes, is legally acceptable, as long as no one can prove that you returned the "favor" with official action......
Looking at the bright side, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill assures us he remains prepared to to prosecute Shurtleff's successor, Attorney General John Swallow,on the separate charges which also remain pending; and Troy Rawlings is keeping his fingers crossed that Shurtleff's lawyers are blocked from collecting hefty court costs and attorney fees as a result of Shurtleff's fortuitous case dismissal.

CfA Demands Audit of Legislative Expenditures for Utah Land Transfer Lawsuit - Updated

"Utah, the best managed state," Har-har-har

Via Utah State Senator James Dabakis:

UGLY and SHOCKING: Fiscal conservatives my butt! So many first class plane tickets, expensive hotels, lobbying with tax money, luxurious meals etc with YOUR money! A sneak 129 page peek behind the translucent veil of totally closed state government. Explains why they were so insistent on keeping the details on the $14 million dollar state land lawsuit and its billing away from Rep Joel Briscoe and me. Standard-Examiner: Jim Harvey Wins the Weber County GOP Primary with 56 Percent

Sour grapes on our part? YEP!

Bad news for Weber County Commissione candidate Caitlin Gochmour fans this morning, as set forth in the groovy graphic below:

Here's the sad story, folks, via yeoman SE reporter Cathy McKitrick, in written form:
Our positive takeway on this? Caitlin scored 44% of the primary election vote, as opposed to 20% in the crackpot Weber County GOP County nominating convention.

Thus, however, Weber County will nevertheless have yet another "good ole boy" GOP commissioner, with more "chins" than a Chinese phone book, inasmuch as the Weber County Democrats failed and refused to nominate a Weber County Commision candidate.:
