Welcome to Weber County Forum

About Weber County Forum

This venue is intended to serve as a non-partisan public community forum, providing citizens of Northern Utah a cyber focal point within which to discuss, debate and rant about any and all local governmental policies and issues in and around Weber County, Utah.

Users are invited to visit, chat, argue, bicker, promote and co-ordinate political events, post, link and read articles, and whatever else -- so long as they observe a reasonable level of civility and decorum.

For those folks new to blogging, consider this blog a cyber "letters-to-editor" venue, with a lot more of a free-wheeling attitude than you'll find in your hometown newspaper. If you want to put in your $.02, just post your own comments with the comments button. The comments interface is similar to the one you probably use for regular email.

For those of you more familiar with the ways of the blogosphere, you already know the drill, so have at it.

Although I'll initially limit original articles to those of my own composition, the invitation's immediately open for the submission of "guest editorials," which can be sent via the email address located in my "Profile."

If this web project pans out, I'll no doubt add "guest bloggers" to the team on an ongoing basis.

A note fer the guy who had trouble "registering."

1) You can register, and freeze yer own ID.

2) You can choose an ID you use on other sites on the web.

3) You can post anonymously.

It's pretty simple. And I'll bend my back to help people access and use this site. email me if you have further problems.

Neither the Mayor or any of the five council members who blindly support his crazy schemes are qualified or capable of even holding the jock of the lowest level manager at the smallest company.  Yet they routinely make multi million dollar decisions on the goofiest of schemes putting public money at risk and losing millions and millions of tax payer dollars.  They feed themselves cooked up information from their own feasibility studies to substantiate their incompetent business decisions and they control and manipulate the information given to the public so that no one can truly gauge the success or failure of any given venture.  No individual project is detailed in a normal accounting fashion and nobody knows what works and what doesn't.  They invariably then declare each fiasco a success.  They don't look in the rear view mirror - as they proudly boast - so they are ignorant of the mistakes that they make, and of course that dooms them to continually repeat the mistakes.  If Ogden Inc. were a regular public or private company every one of them would have been fired a long time ago, and/or been tried and convicted of criminal negligence. Meanwhile the infrastructure is falling apart and the whole city continues to deteriorate with a corresponding decline in the citizen's quality of life.

Ahem! Just an editorial note from yer webmaster.

Libel and defamation will not be tolerated here.

Let's just address the issues, here, without personal assaults.

Let's stick to the nuts and bolts, folks.

I'll confess I'm alredy tempted to ban "anonymous posts.

Let's all try to converse civally here, folks.

Anonymous said...

So Tell me Mr. Rudizink - was my last post Libelous and or defametory? Is this blog going to be for confurnz speak only? Is saying that these rascals should be in the joint to un-polite for the people in your ward? Perhaps you should have the lord mayor vet each entry for politeness.

With my very best wishes,

Anon Amiss

Let's just say that accusations of "criminal misconduct" ought to be supported by more than blind speculation.

Nuff said.

Anonymous said...

maybe you ought to tell the Army this stuff about public implications of criminal wrong doing concerning our beloved city administration!

So what are you - a lawyer or something?

Anon Amiss

RudiZink said...

Just remember, anonymous...your ISP address is still available even though you still post "anonymously."

If I get sued for libel as a publisher...so do you.

NOBODY is truly anonymous on the internet.

Let's run a clean ship here; OK?

Rudi Rudi Rudi

Whatcha gonna do check for fingerprints on the library's computer?

If yer gonna do a blog about Weber County - home of Ogden and squirly political arrogance - you sure as heck ain'ta gonna keep it clean! Running a "clean ship" with all the dirty dishonest politicians running Weber County and especially Ogden City is about as big a fantasy as the Lord Mayor's goofy idea that this High Tech Wreck center is going to be a magnet for building out the mud hole that used to be the Mall before the idiot bought it and took it off the tax rolls!

Jeeze, did I just call hizzhonor an idiot? Maybe I should have said lier, that might be closer to the truth although both are accurate in my opinion. Remember counselor - the truth is a perfect defense for libel.

Just my opinions of course - in case you are a lawyer. You kinda sound like one - "not that there is anything wrong with that" as the TV comedian said when talking about his queer friend.

So sue me.

Ya ain't been deleted yet, have ya, anonymous.

I'm a believer in the First Amendment...but howbout we don't push it too far on the first nite out.

Hey Rudi

I got deleted by polite society a long time ago!

If I want polite I'll go to the lord mayor's web site.

I think you ought to dedicate this blog to truth in local government. Change the name to something like "as the worm turns" or "if their lips are moving they are lying". Something spicy that the real people of Ogden can relate to.

Dear Rudizink:

I am glad that some one is finally doing a blog about Weber County and Ogden City events. Do you intend on dealing only with poliitical happenings or do you want to explore all subjects of concern to Weber County Citizens?

This anonymous guy or gal that interjected him or her self into your dialogue right off the bat has made some very interesting and possibly valid points. However, who ever it is sounds like their a little nutty and maybe ought to seek some professional help.
No offense meant but calling the Mayor a liar like that doesn't seem very polite even if it may be true, and I'm not sure one way or the other. I do believe that the Mayor means well even though he does some times come across as an elitest and evasive with the whole story.

I hope that this blog opens up some very productive dialogue in Northern Utah. There seems to be a shortage of it in these parts.

Thanks,

Judy Blue Eyes

I think Judy Blue Eyes is correct in her assesment of that jerk Anonymous. The Mayor and his fine staff are only doing for Ogden what needed to be done a long time ago.

I would like to clear up her misunderstanding about Anonymous. He is definately a guy. No woman thinks in jingoistic terms like that. He is probably a petty little failure who is striking out at decent people trying to drag them down to his level. My advice to him is get some help, get a life, brush your teeth and find a girlfriend.

Ogden needs a recreation center to take our kids to that is affordable and where they can do all of those different things without costing us an arm and a leg.
The mayor said we will all be able to afford it, and I believe him. We also need for Nordstrom's to come back to town and this will make it happen, and not soon enough for me.

Anonymous said...

I disagree with Ogden City Suzy about this Anonymous crack pot. I think it is a woman. I have known plenty of Ogden women who were nuts and mean! Take my ex wife for instance! Please.

I think the mayor may fib here and there but it is always for the public good. Sometime we need for our elected officials to bend the truth a little bit for us to move forward as a society.

We should push forward on the Recreation center as fast as possible for the sake of the inter city kids who will need some place to go after the Marshall White center closes down. The Mayor is only trying to do what is right for these underpreviledged kids.

RudiZink said...

Dear JBE, OC Suzy and Jared:

I set up this site to allow people to post their own views -- Period.

It's my belief that the truth always comes out when there's a fair and reasoned exchange of views. I believe a site such as this can be an effective 24/7 citizens' forum to sort the wheat from the chaff -- otherwise I wouldn't be doing it.

I encourage all people of Weber County to visit this site -- and post their own views.

I'm gonna cut "anonymous" a pass on a few of this night's excesses. I've run enough websites in my life to know that it takes a bit of time before everyone gets into a real diologue.

Dialogue's one thing missing in Weber County politics -- and I hope to cultivate that here.

What I'd like to see is a situation where everyone can discuss issues with a semi-cool head. This is a good place to do that, I think.

I'll have a light hand on censorship or criticism here. All I ask is that everyone here behave as adults as they offer their comments on this board.

RudiZink said...

Judy Blue Eyes:

I'd like to see this blog develop as a focal point for all Weber County issues, whether, cultural, political or social.

There's nothing that concerns anything on Weber County and environs which I'd consider OT (off topic.)

If you have issues you'd like to have discussed...please mention them in the comments section...or email me.

If Jared thinks that this High Tech Wreck deal is for the inter city kids he's been smoking to much wacky weed and buying into the Big Lie. Only the rich kids will be able to afford it, and as usual the poor kids will be looking through the windows from the outside. I think the only thing this Mayor wants for the intercity kids is for them to disappear so he can tear down their homes and put up a Wal-Mart. If it weren't for people like that Dorothy woman that's exactly what he would be doing. I think we should make her Mayor. We would all be a lot better for it.

And by the way Jared, I am a man, unlike you, and your little joke about your wife was pretty stale, stupid and insulting to women.

And Judy Blue Eyes and Ogden Suzy - give me your best shots, I would be more than happy to debate the merits of this dumb High Tech Wreck center idea with you. And I'll even brush my teeth if you put yours in!

I think the overwhelming issue in Weber County and Ogden city is honesty in our politicians and more specificaly the lack thereof. This of course is a national problem not unique to Utah.

I especially liked the suggestion that Anony Moose made that this blog be renamed "If their lips are moving they are lying"

And also agree with rudizink that there should not be any censorship otherwise we might as well go to the City's web site and get the cleansed truth from the administration.

So Zink

I didn't see my last two posts on your blog. What's the matter couldn't you get the mayor to OK them?

Pretty good and unbiased article in this morning's SL Tribune about the failed petition drive and the Mud hole at the mall in general. To bad we have to read the Salt Lake paper to get the real story. To bad the SubStandard is showing it's bias in favor of the Lord Mayor and all his cockeyed schemes. The SubStandard has been a worthless rag everysince it was bought by the out of state chain from Ohio. Without the Glassman family running it they have lost all their credibility.

Anonymous said...

I couldn't agree more on the decline of the Standard Examiner since it was sold to the out of state chain.
I have been reading it for 57 years now and the last ten or so it has been a real disapointment. I wish someone would start a new Ogden paper, I am sure they would be very successful.

I hope your new web site here helps fill the gap.

today's editorial in the Ogden paper was an insult to all freedom loving children of God. I urge everyone who reads this to cancel their subscription to this godless enterprise.

They made a wholy unwarranted attack on all of our basic religeous freedoms with this scurelous garbage attacking the Davis County Coop. They bore false witness against some of the most saintly men in history and the leaders of the one true church. They insisted on calling our church the "Kingstons" which is not true and only said to demean us. They made accusations that our marraige to young women was somehow evil when in truth everyone who is familiar with the workings of the lord knows that these young sisters were put here on earth for the purpose of serving our leading men who are doing the work of the lord.
I plead with all right thinking people to stand up against this judicial abuse that is being visited upon us your brothers.

This anonymous fool should have been to the City council meeting tonight. He would then know that the Mayor does not lie to the people and that everything he has been saying about the development of down town has been the gospel truth. the petition gatherers were discredited and shown to be the naysayers we all knew them to be. Mayor Godfrey is god given to the people of Ogden because we needed him to be here to show us the way to a better future. He and the members of the city council are blessed and rightous and we are like in the hands of Jesus, Joseph Smith and the holy spirit with their leadership. We should not doubt our devinely inspired leaders, we should not question their motives and actions but we should follow them with complete confidence for they can do no wrong.

My god I just read the entry by the very evil Orvil! Can you believe any one could be so completely evil and without redeeming value. Father in Heaven will surely punish these people. We need to come together and rescue these exploited young girls from this Kingston Klan.

If this web site is about Weber County I wanted to ask people out there why all of the County officials have to drive around in big expensive SUV's while me, a lowly taxpayer, has to get by with a ten year old Mercury Sable?
Is there something I am missing out on? Is this what my hard earned tax dollars are used up on here in Utah?

Anonymous said...

I'm new to Utah and was wondering why all the good stores are closed on Sunday? Can some one help me understand if the Mormans are responsible for this and why don't they want me to shop on Sunday even after church? Also do they not like other religions and will I have any trouble with them?

To the guy who wondered why our government officials need the big SUV's. Well, have you ever seen them? They need em that big to haul their large lard asses around!

I am amazed at the input from "trina foster". It is either from some really sick mind, or if genuine from a very pathetic victim. In either event I believe that the writer is in desperate need of some help. Surely no one in modern day America could possibly be this illeterate, could they? Even the obviously evil Ervil would not hold down young girls in such a way that they were completely illeterate, would he?
This letter is disturbing and should be looked into by the proper authorities.

Yo Steve,

If you think those government officials riding around in the big fansy SUV's have large lard asses, you oughta get a look at the big assed women they are married to. I was in Smiths by the bakery department the other day when they announced on the PA that they had a special on donuts. All the donuts you could put in a box for a dollar. All of a sudden I heard a rumbling and masses of them big lard asses were coming from all directions! I had to duck out of the way of the stampede to save my life! It reminded me of that old movie "Elephant walk". It was pretty scarry and hilarious at the same time.

It makes me sad that there are people who can do nothimg more with the beauty of the English Language, than rail, and cuss and spite and hate and criticize those who make and do. Someone needs to explain it on their level, so I'll try.
You see, Timmy, if the Mayor can get some of those well healed people that you hate, to come and spend some of their excess money in our town, then part of the sales taxes paid will come to Ogden. Eventually even commercial property taxe will be added to the city, of which 50% will go to schools and 25% to the city.
When the city gets this extra money, then the nice mayor can fix the potholes in your streets and improve the water system. Even if you could not afford to go to the "Wreck Center" yourself, don't you think it would be nice to have better streets, water and schools?
When the city voted to buy the mall, Timmy, the city didn't loose property taxes, because a previous mayor made it exempt to get it built. It was loosing money for four successive owners, and the best tenants had moved out, because it was a local mall, without a "wreck center", and couldn't draw the people west of the freeway, north of second street or south of 36th street downtown.
Timmy, our nice mayor didn't want to make the same mistake again, and you wouldn't want him to, would you Timmy.
There, I hope that makes you feel better, it isn't good for you to go around hating people. If you make that angry face often enough, it will get stuck that way. You don't want that do you? Try to smile and be happy Timmy, not everyone is out to hurt you dear.
