"Bad Cop" Guilty of Rescuing Baby Chicks

Another Stange Tale from the Very Strange MattGodfeyWorld

By Gentle Reader Sharon

Matt Jones took home baby chicks which he rescued from a raid on cock-fighting. His crime? He didn't clear the 'rescue' with his superiors!

WELL...anyone who would snuggle up baby chicks and take them to his farm obviously cannot be trusted to do his duty in stopping errant drivers and writing traffic tickets! We don't want "heart" on the force, boy.

Apparently DiCaria is talking out of both sides of his mouth when he states that Greiner had no evident cause to suspend Jones last July for any wrong doing in the alleged wallet snatchings. He was one of 10 officers on duty...and another time, one of 25!!! officers on duty when the allegations were made.

In the next breath, DiCaria states that Greiner proably DID have sufficient cause.

Read all about it in Kristen Mouton's excellent Trib articles yesterday and today.

The cops THINK their internal 4 month long investigation is winding down. It's all in the hands of Greiner's subordinate.

Three and one-half weeks til Christmas and what will happen to Matt Jones and his family? As Matt is quoted, "If they had anything on me, you think they would have fired me by now."

This Police Department under the leadership of Chief Greiner is committing an egregious act against this officer.

I don't recall seeing any other officers who were on scene at those alleged thefts being put on administrative leave.

Did I miss something here?

Will "Santa Claus Godfrey" (making the self-serving magnanimous gesture) order Matt back to work and hand him his gun, badge and car so he can support his family? His cop's pay is not enough...and I'm sure his little ones are expecting Santa to leave their wishes under the tree.

Oh, no!!!!!!! The chicken story's out! Jones' goose is cooked for sure!

All levity aside, this has gone on for far too long. I hope when the reports are released we will get to see them. Or is this confidential material?

Actually, the fact that the DA found in his investigation insufficient evidence to show that Jones' committed any crime should carry a bit of weight, I think.

Now now, is that any way to write about our new Republican state senator?

[Sorry. Couldn't resist.]

Back to the "chick caper."

One facet of this story hasn't come out... not even in Kristen's article.

Although Matt DID inadvertantly fail to clear his rescue effort through his immediate OPD supervisors, he DID nevertheless clear it through Ogden Animal Control officers, who were not eager to destroy these young avian critters, and happily agreed to relinquish the birds into his custody. Matt lives on a small farm, and specializes in rescuing ducklings, baby pheasants and all manner of feathered creatures. He has the special equipment necessary for the care of birds; and the animal control folks were in ready agreement when he proposed relieving them of the obligation to destroy these feathered unfortunates.

Bureaucratic "justice" prevailed however, when the OPD high command decided to play it by the book.

Matt got his two-day suspension, and the baby chicks were promptly executed.

Hooray for bureaucratic justice!

I should have known that you'd rise to the defense of the notorious chicknapper Jones.... [grin].

Human compassion is for the weak!

We have rules here in my Republik about this.

Insubordinate chicken-nappers like officer Jones will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, here in my realm.

I make all the rules.

I expect everybody to follow them to the letter, including that upstart Greiner, who somehow managed to get himself elected to a State Senate seat, despite my explicit instructions to MY HOUSE PROPAGANDA ORGAN to get my buddy Stuart Reid elected. (I will deal with the Standard Examiner's ineptitude later, in my usual ways.)

I have spoken.

Write it down so you don't forget it.

Hey! Can anyone link the article in the SE from today? You know, the one about lessening snowpack in the rockies and how it affects ski resorts at lower elevations?

Curm...guess it seems that none of the voters rec'd the memo from the 9th floor.

I suppose when Greiner called his men 'whiners' that the votin' public just naturally assumed Greiner was a Godfrey boy.

Can't believe that REAL Republicans cast that many votes.

Wouldn't it be a wonderful, humanitarian politically savvy act to exonerate Matt Jones NOW???

Rescuing young chicks, and bringing them home for further nurturing, has always been a pet project of mine (heheh).

Greiner was just the lesser of two evils

Hey Curmudgeon,

How did you get your hyperlink to open into a separate window? I want to know how to do that.

tech:

I have no idea. I just copied the link form from WCF archives, dropped the SE link into the appropriate place and hit "publish" below. That was it.

My computer expertise begins with "plug in" and ends with "turn on." Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

tech: the best way I know of to send links to new windows is to add target="_blank" after the url in the tag, ie [a href="http://www.liftogden.org" target="_blank"] (used diff brackets so it wouldn't make an actual link)

As for Matt Jones, I can't believe the Mayor didn't tell us about Jones' poultry fetish sooner. I can guarantee no one would have come to his defense if we'd known the TRUTH!!

Unfortunately, the target="_blank" code isn't accepted by the blogger.com "post a comment" interface, Turdust.

Your blogmeister has worked out a "hack" to the blog permalinks, and routinely modifies posts to add the target="_blank code later.

That's why most WCF comments links now open new pages.

Turdust,

Truth? You want the truth?!

You can't HANDLE the truth!!!

Why do you think that I am your LEADER and THINKER????
