No one is denying Paredes, or anyone else, the right to criticize pols or take political stances. What’s being criticized is the idiocy of claiming that Senator Reid is not a worthy Mormon because he is a Democrat. That is an obnoxious, backwards sentiment that should be shunned by any sensible member of the Mormon faith, regardless of party. One hopes that the ignorance of using party affiliation to determine someone’s “rigteousness” is an idea that will wither away.
Being involved in the political process, whether as a Republican, Democrat, independent, or with a third party, is most often an expression of patriotism as well as altruism. It’s an effort to improve our nation. When one falls into the malicious trap of interpreting diverse opinions and stances as unrighteous, it is an unhealthy, arrogant abuse of both political and religious tolerance and decency.
Top-shelf editorial from this morning's SE hard-copy edition:
Our Weber County Forum view? This nitwit John Parades should be stripped by "The 'true' Church" of all his heretofore LDS church "vestments."
Back to the Deacon's Quorum for Bishop Paredes, we say.
