This place seems a little slow today, so here's an interesting story about a guy from Ogden:

Those who've been posting comments here will notice I've now changed the comments interface to open a new window, rather than a mere pop-up.

I'm going to experiment with these alternate formats a little bit, and would appreciate any reader comments about which format works better from your point of view.

Feel free to chime in if you have any particular preference for one over the other, please, and it would be helpful if you'd explain your rationale.

-Thanks

At least they got the "Ogden Call Manager" thing right, eh BOI?

I mean that's just about the only local industry Ogden still has, right?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a good article posted yesterday on UTmorMan's "the good in Ogden" blog.

Check it out here.

I read an OP/ED earlier today, from one of the Geiger boys, dealing with what Ogden is and all that Ogden can be. He seems to advocate a better Ogden City/WSU relationship, which would be nice, and emphasized athletics, downtown, and, of course, the TRAM! Damn, here we go again, trying to figure out what mode of transportation will best serve those miniuns clogging up the downtown bus stops in an attempt to get to the college campus.

I read that op-ed piece too, Enthused Citizen. Anybody know who this "other" Geiger" fellow is?

I'm fairly well acquainted with Curt Geiger, who's a ski industry heavyweight, and a top corporate exec with Descente. He must be "family," I'd guess. I was very impressed when Descent brought the North American company HQ to Ogden, about a year ago.

A brother perhaps?

Bob would Curt's twenty-something son who also works at Descente. He has his degree from Anarbor and spent some time in the Marines, I believe. He and Curt are VERY active members of Lift Ogden.

Utmormon is correct....and don't forget brother Claire, former starter at the Barn Golf Course and now with Descente. By the by, if Bob spent time in the Marines, he's a good fit in my book!

Here are some pictures and a short commentary of the ice wall in Ogden like I promised.

Hey Rudizink. Is it time to clean up and clear out some of these issues we've been hammering away at for the last few weeks. Like many Ogden downtown projects, some of the "subjects" are stalled and getting little or no play (posts). We need something new, maybe some posts about Kelso and how that may effect Ogden.

Just a thought....

Good suggestion, Enthused Citizen.

The archiving function is actually automatic; and I've set it to archive posts that are over seven days of age. I still don't know the blogger software all that well, but I suspect there's some kind of automatic override that occurs to keep a certain number of posts on the front page.

The exception to this is this "Open Thread" you're posting to now. I thought I'd try "recycling" it so I republished it under the current date a few days ago.

Your comments are appreciated. I'm still experimenting on publishing parameters right now.

Curious....will the inception of a Tram or an aerial transportation system really bring a $200,000,000 hotel to Ogden and turn our city into the next Aspen or Vail?

Me, I kind of like the "Streetcar" aspect. Makes sense and costs less and definitely would get the job done shuttling all those minions, waiting at the 23rd Street Intermodal Hub, for transportation to the college campus.

As for a Tram to Snowbasin? Money and, very importantly, the impact on the environment. Much to consider, not to mention the studies and polls that have not been favorable for such an endeavor. But, then, this is Ogden, and those things really don't mean much, do they?!?

I looked at the concept photos of a gondola running up 23d street on the good in ogden blog last night, and was it ever butt-ugly! Sticking those gondola towers in the middle of the street will require road widening, of course, which means all the homes along those streets will be reduced to the size of postage stamps. And I can imagine how happy those neighbors will be, as carload after carload of students and ski tourists peer down on their homes and yards from dawn into the night. I've heard crackpot ideas, but this one tops them all.

And yes, EC! A trolley type shuttle is a more sensible idea. With that you could have commuters use the thing to travel between various stops on route, and have more universal use by the average city resident. This would probably offend the ski tourists, though. People in $1,000 ski suits don't normally like to ride to the ski slopes with lowlife nonskiers who wear jeans, baseball caps, mumus and hair curlers. And frequent stops would seriously slow down their trip to the top of the mountain.

I'm still having trouble trying to figure out where all of these downtowners who ski and go to college are coming from and where they live that makes it so damn necessary to have an aerial transportation system to transport them to the college campus and beyond. We need another study, I guess.

Hearing all this bull shit about trams, trolleys and college's gives me a damn headache! As far as I'm concerned this city government is taking us all to hell in a handbasket.

This damnable college on the hill is another bunch of crap! Each year it pumps out more dumb ass graduates who go on to do the same unconstitutional busy busy busy horse shit that just makes life more difficult and complicated for us common folks. No wonder most of the young people faced with the hypocracy of it all are turning to booze and pills. Shit, half of em smoke a joint before their first class in the morning.

Aint we got enough damn dumb ass college graduates as it is? Look at what they have done to society and look at what these idiot graduates at city hall have been doing to Ogden. The more that ivory tower on the hill pumps out these jokers, the faster we all will be going to hell!

Vik, you've been at the oxycontin, haven't you? Such language. If your offensive behavior/language exemplifies the difference between you and your bunch and the college graduates and those behind Lindquist Field, I'll take the latter.

Get off your pitty-pot. You'll feel better and maybe even be able to contribute soemthing worthwhile, instead of your rambling, boring dialogue that seems to be directed at everyone and everything that has some value.

Well anonymous I would say your a real pecker head. You aint got the balls to use your own name so you can sit safely behind the curtain and be a big man like the little dude in Dorthy in Wonderland.

Nobody gives a shit about what you think mr nobody. I've known many pecker woods like you in my time and there wasn't a one of them that was worth a tinkers damn. Based on what I have seen you writing here I would say you aint takin enough oxycotin, you seem to be in pain and without humor in your life. You remind me of the drooling old coots they got strapped in wheel chairs all over the damn hallways here where I live (temporarily)

Anonymous said...

Well, Vik, you must be the guy they write about who lives in the old St. Benedict's Manor, sentenced indefinitely to the hallway, there to live and temporarily observe the others. I guess, for you, this would beat going to the ball game with all the other pecker heads, er, woods, whatever.

Easy, boy, easy, this is supposed to be a respectible forum, void of anger and foul language, where we can share and enjoy the dialoge.

Humor us, Vik.

Anonymous, it certainly looks like you got Viktor's dander up. My goodness, his language and implied threats. Do you think his real name is Viktor? I wonder what his last name is. Dorthy in Wonderland? I thought it was Alice in Oz. Too much oxycontin.
