27 Dead in Connecticut Shooting, Including 18 Children

Another heavily-armed and mentally-crazed jackass abuses OUR 2d Amendment constitutional rights

Whoa! Looks like another heavily-armed and mentally-crazed jackass has abused OUR 2d Amendment consitutional rights and has blown away a whole kindergarten class in Newtown, Connecticut, of all weird targets in all politically-inexplicable places:
Speaking as a die-hard 2d Amendment advocate, your blogmester would like to open the discussion:

If we're to protect the Second Amendment, and allow average citizens to "keep and bear arms," is there any way that we, as a society, can ever prevent extreme abuses of the Second Amendment, such as this?

Just axin'

EDUCATION IS THE KEY!

Never even thought of using a firearm on people till I joined the army. never used one that way and hope to never even for self defense. Still hold that people will kill people even if they use a rock!
So let's out law rocks!

There are limits & restrictiins  placed on the 1St amendment in regards to what is published and the nation survives. There is a possibility that restrictions on the 2nd amendment would also allow the nation to continue.

Hard cases make bad law, and if the US Corporo-fascist state is looking for a reason to disarm Americans, they've had the ideal case land right there in their lap.

Children on both coasts and in the middle and
all the way out in the weird foreign parts like Hawaii came home from
school, and ate dinner, and ice cream, and got hugs, and whined about
their homework, and got more hugs, and they didn’t necessarily know why.

And that’s OK, because they came home, and it’s the best news anybody’s heard all day.

The answer to your question is "no."   There  is no way to prevent insanity in some people, and a certain number of the insane will express their insanity in violence.  Just as a certain number of any large population will be serial killers.  As the overall population expands, we can expect the number of such incidents to expand as well in rough proportion.   We could I suppose make it somewhat more difficult for them to get their hands on weapons.  But only somewhat.

It's a pity nobody in the neighborhood heard the shots and dropped by with a gun of his own, or that the principal had a .22 rifle.  A lunatic's head is a pretty big target.  Dropping a bullet in it would have saved most of the lives.
