Wall Street Journal - What's Your Workout: Running (Biking and Skiing) for Mayor

We'll express our sympathies to poor ol' Mayor Caldwell, who's trying to balance his political duties with his grueling workouts, and propose that we all cut him a little slack

In the midst of another S-L-O-W Northern Utah political news day, we'll spring something from the back burner just to give our readers at least some opportunity to dive into a new discussion. A coupla days ago one of our sharp-eyed readers sent us this eye-opening Wall Street Journal item, profiling our "triathlete and former competitive mountain biker" Mayor Caldwell, who "made a campaign promise to himself that workouts would be part of his job, sharing priority with political duties":
The scuttlebutt around City Hall is that Mayor Caldwell has been ducking out of important recent City Council meetings and that his proposed first draft 2012-13 fiscal year budget was filed with the City Council just a mite late.

Mike Caldwell - Dedicated Jock
Having perused the WSJ story, we'll express our sympathies to poor ol' Mayor Caldwell, who's trying to balance his political duties with his grueling workouts, and propose that we all cut him a little slack.  By the time city council meetings roll around, we suspect that he's gotta be already "plumb tuckered out".

Certain "concessions" are appropriate, we believe, when your mayor is a dedicated jock.

Right?

Budget status update: I checked the city web site yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon and sure enough, the draft budget was posted there as Mr. Johnson had promised. However, if you download the budget, you'll find that it's incomplete. In particular, all the detailed expenditure pages for the enterprise funds (including utility funds) and internal service funds are missing. I've brought this to the attention of the city council staff (though they had probably already noticed) and asked if they know when the missing pages will be provided, but haven't yet received any response. Meanwhile, you can download the incomplete draft budget here:

Although Caldwell be a narcissistic POS, he certainly has a nice looking dog.

Ah.... no.  The job comes first. I'm all for Hizzonah staying in shape, getting up on the trails as often as he can, but not at the expense of doing his job.  'Fraid when you run for public office and win, the job becomes priority one.   "The budget's late because I was too plumb tuckered out from running, biking, etc. to get it in on time" just doesn't cut it I'm afraid.

Is part of Caldwell's exercise and workout schedule backpedaling on promises he made to the citizens of Ogden while seeking to become Mayor?

We could hope that this disengaged mayor would be a good thing, compared to the activist atrocities that Godfrey was always scheming up.

But what we get is a city run by its self-dealing bureaucrats.  Ogden will remain a nice place to live primarily because our bureaucrats tax and regulate it so much nobody else will want to live here.

Aaah, uncrowded.

If you needed confirmation that it's no longer fashionable to be a philosopher-king, this is it.

The online budget has now (Friday morning) been corrected to include the pages that were missing.

Dan S. or anyone..........I assume the photo with dog above was not taken on land owned by Ogden City, since THAT DOG is not on a leash.........Or are there now MT biking trails in Ogden City on the East Bench where Biking with DOG OFF LEASH (DOL) is legal, at least if you are biking with The Mayor. Has anyone noticed any change in the REGs for East Bench Trails. Or was this just a PHOTO OP?
