The North Ogden Council is Doing WHAT?

North Ogden News Alert

May 2, 2006 – Paid for by ‘Citizens for Proper Government’

YOUR TAXES AND FEES WILL BE GOING UP UNLESS YOU GET INVOLVED!

North Ogden residents, are you WILLING TO ASK the city council and mayor SOME TOUGH QUESTIONS? Over 10 taxes, fees or rates tentatively voted on; do not have to be raised if the NOC council would listen to the VOICE OF REASON AND THE CITIZENS!

Why have our new mayor and council members recently returned from a two day budget workshop in St. George wherein 4 out of 5 council members discussed ways to raise an additional million dollars in taxes and fees from North Ogden city residents? (i.e., water, sewer, and trash utilities rates, impact fees and property taxes)?

Very good qestion. You may read the whole gentle reader-supplied news release here.

When you've finished reading the article, don't forget to leave your comments.

The beleagured citizens of NOC are getting the word out! Kudos to the organizers!

Is there SOMETHING about living in any part of Ogden that just seems to attract scummy people to office?

Such waste of the taxpayers' labors. Ogden...NOC...not much difference in leadership, is there?

At least they aren't pushing for their mayor's vision of a gondola! YET.

Maybe North Ogden is going to give the money to Mayor Godfrey to help him build all of his toys. Maybe North Ogden wants to build a gondola over the North Ogden Divide to go to Wolf Creek or the old Nordic Valley

No...this isn't an anti-Godfrey blog. Here you have an article about North Ogden...and the issues there, and you still take any opportunity to trash Godfrey. Grow up people.

Hubris and Incompetence make a lovely couple. One need look no further than various local governments to see the havoc created when these two love birds get together. Godfrey, while being the most glaring example, is by no means alone in mixing these two elements as the main ingredients of his administration.

Oh, and the Little Lord makes it soooo very easy to discuss him, what with almost weekly updates on his arrogance and the shinanigans of his gang that can't shoot straight!

It would be nice to hear about local governments that are humble and competent servants of their constituents, wouldn't it? Is there any one in WCF world who has some good stories about their local government? I have heard of several in Davis County. Layton, Bountifull and Farmington to name a few. Are there any in Weber County? Seems to me that the folks in South Ogden and Riverdale have people friendly government. At least I never hear a lot of discontent from their citizens - like I do with Ogden and No. Ogden. Of course their public leaders have led them into smart deals, not losers like some others do so routinely.

It will be interesting to see what pans out with the still "new" Ogden city council. They are going to be responsible for some major long term public decicions here in the near future. Hundreds of Millions of dollars of public money could be gambled with. There will be a huge mountain of information - some very conflicting with others - that will have to be gone through and digested. All corners of the city will have to be consulted with and more importantly listened to about all this business of swapping off the city's foothills for a mechanical contraption that will be a used up piece of junk in 50 years.

Very important stuff for the people and the future tax payers of Ogden. I hope that the council can get to the real truth and come to the right conclussions about this last gasp attempt by the Goddfreyites to salvage their reign of incompetence.

I hope that this council can get to the truth about the real financial recources that may - or may not - be behind this gondola scheme.

I still say that if the gondola's are feasible - proven by being done with private money - then the damn things ought to get built, assuming the people that are directly and negatively affected are justly compensated. But - Not one damn penny of public money should be invested in any way, shape or form. This means trading the public owned golf course and foothills for any part of the over all project.

The Godfreyites have not produced one single winner in the six and half years that they have been freely spending tens of millions of dollars of public money. Why should they, in their last 18 month gasp, be allowed to blow off another hundred or so million dollars of public money. Their record stands for itself. Nothing they do actually ends up successfull. Every thing they touch turns to horse patooty,.

If the Gondola and Malan Resort are feasible then let Peterson build them both. Hells bells, he is the one that will end up owning them and making all the money that may happen. Why shouldn't he build it with his own allowance?

Mayor Jimmie Papageorge of Farr West is the only mayor I know of in Utah who has built new city offices and a swimming pool-rec center and kept his city debt-free.

Interestingly enough, before Farr West had a pool, North Ogden's then-mayor Muirbrook approached Farr West about going in on the North Ogden pool. Farr West would help pay for the pool but it would be located in North Ogden.

Jimmie's philosophy at that time and has always been "If I can't pay for it, I'm not going to do it".

Needless to say, it also has to be built on Jimmie's turf.

Three Cheers for Jimmie Papageorge!

OzBoy, you mean Peterson should build on the 'allowance' his wife doles out, don't you?
Haven't we always agreed that CP should build the *&&^^*& thing UP his , uh. CANYON and build his own resort village. Leave us alone!
When Matt is turned out of office he can work for CP....busboy, front desk mgr, gondola operator, the opportunities are limitless.

BTW...another old building bites the dust in Ogden...watch the news tonight. It was already reported on the CH 2 4 pm news today. First a fire.....
Before the defender, anon, writes back....it was also reported that the mall has some activity.
We are progressing!!!

Well South Ogden did miss out on purchasing Golf City. And the Standard doesn't seem to care about covering what happens in Riverdale so I don't know I would go so far as saying others don't have their problems.

And Riverdale did build their Rec Center without going into debt, though they did use debt and their RDA to build their senior center.

I do get a kick about how this is supposed to be a Weber County Forum but you can't give up bashing ogden for one thread.

I would like to see the study about the Public Works department privitazation. Personally, I think that the structure of municipal governments in Weber county is extremely inefficent. Does anyone think that every city having a full PW department all so close together? And of course like was pointed out each one is so independant that they won't cooperate to help each other out even if it means that they have to increase taxes to pay for things that might be able to be provided if they were just willing to cooperate.

Oh, why can't we all just get along??
It isn't just Ogden gov't that needs bashing...isn't this thread about North Ogden?
I was in Riverdale today, and just boggled at the thought of all the revenue being generated there!

ARCritic said...

Abner, I wish that were the case. Yes we do get a signigicant amount of sales tax revenue, but with SB 35 we will see our sales tax revenue reduced to last years amount and then it will stay there for at least 7 years. With that being about 80% of the budget it will be interesting to see how the budget is balanced. And that sales tax money that isn't going to Riverdale will be going to communities that currently have large populations compared to their retail commercial base.

And yes I don't have a problem with bashing all the governments, I just get a little jelous when this blog claims to be a Weber County Forum but every single thread somehow turns into a bash Ogden governement and especially Mayor Godfrey. The rest of us are not that much better than Matt, we just seem to be better at hiding in the shadows.

I believe that the reason things keep going back to the subject of Godfrey is that he is so far beyond the pale that all other incompetent or slightly incompetent local governments simply end up looking brilliant in comparison.

If you look at Godfrey's record over the last six years, you will see that he truly is incompetent and arrogant way beyond what any of us have seen around Northern Utah in our life times. In spite of spending tens of millions of tax dollars on one losing scheme after another, he and his followers are always pushing for more and more free tax dollars to throw at their latest wild dream.

I'll take that as a compliment. :-)
