Amusing piece in this morning's Salt Lake Tribune. Be sure to watch the video:
• 'The Tonight Show' sings to Orrin Hatch, MormonsIn reference to our inimitable Utah senior senator's little holiday ditty, believe it or not, the song's reportedly "tearin' up the charts". In fact it's currently right in there at #19 on Amazon.com in free mp3 downloads, between Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" and "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas. We'll add that it's disappointing, we believe, that our junior senator, Bob Bennett, never, ever comes up with good stuff like this.
And for those possibly humorless readers who might interpret the Tonight Show's satirical retort to be an exercise in Mormon bashing, we'll disclose right now that we consider it to be a harmless joke... and so do our good friends from The Mormon Times. This puts us in pretty good company we think; so please don't anybody get your panties in a bunch this morning.
Just a little light humor to kick off a Friday morning open topic thread.
Have at it, O Gentle Ones.

Poor, deluded Orrin thinks his songs get attention for their merit, not because he's a senator.
Only Carol Lynn Pearson or Edgar A. Guest could outwrite him ...
In the theme of the song, happy Chanukah to those that celebrate. Tonight is the last night of Hanukkah (many different spellings).
Orrin Hatch: Rockstar!
hahahahahahahaha, etc.
OF:
The Festival of Lights always seemed to me a better title for it, more fitting to this season of revelry and celebration. For those celebrating Chanukah under whatever name, have a happy!
For those preparing to celebrate Christmas, Winter Solstice or the general secular end-of-the-year orgy of giving and getting and over-eating [the Curmudgeon household among them], deck the damn halls! It's party time!
Curm: You forgot Isaac Newton's birthday.
Dan:
Damn.
Right.
Glad you reminded me.
Yet another reason to party!
So no comments here about the city getting audited by the IRS? Strange!
Ogden's employee payroll tax reports undergo IRS scrutiny
Dang I wish the IRS would audit Godfrey. Maybe see if he claims all that campaigm money he spends on himslef as income.
QM:
The story reported that the IRS does random city audits, and that there was no indication that this audit was anything but one of the random city audits, that it was not being done in response to information [good or bad] alleging skullduggery. Given that, there's not much to comment on, seems to me, until the results of the audit are in.
Curm. Damn, that's never stopped wild ass speculation here before. I've been watching this site for the last few weeks and it seems to becoming more and more irrelevant. Not much here any more. Even Rudi seems to have lost interest. What gives?

We have just been hanging out, waiting for the trolls to show up.
The fact that a Big Time musically-talented guy like Orrin Hatch can continue to produce such great musical works on his piano, while simultaneously serving as Utah's senior Senator speaks the truth about how happy I am to join in for all Mormons to continue having Orrin Hatch 'representing me FOREVER.
What a hackneyed piece of crap are Orrin Hatch's lyrics and the lousy music. It's like something a five year old would produce.
The only reason this dried up old pile of stinking garbage gets any air time is he's a senator, voted in over and over by what appear to be a state of lobotomy victims.
Thank goodness for the Tonight Show parody. That was actual entertainment.
As a Mormon, I resent somebody like Orrin Hatch being identified with me at all.
Hey where did all the nutcakes go? Oh I forgot I'm one of them.

Not a note of sarcasm, kids; bear with us.
Orrin Hatch has been a US Senator for quite a long time, as has been his constituents expressed desire.
During that period he has voted on, created, and steered legislation aplenty, the vast majority of which we believe was wrong headed.
And, he creates music that would not have aired on that chestnut of 1950s lite-swing, The Lawrence Welk Show; we understand the music, and likewise his music aspirations. Although he will have his fans, and his work musical will move some to marvel and wonder, it simply does not rise to cocktail hour, and lest we forget: he has shared some of his song craft with audiences global.
But the measure of a US Senator is not whether or not I personally agree with his vision for society; the vast gulf between his vision and ours does not bother us a whit.
What a US Senator does is watch the long view, and protect the land; here, Orrin Hatch serves.
We respect and admire our great senator form Utah, Orrin Hatch.
He conducts his'selves with sufficient decorum to sit within that august body democratic.
