Standard-Examiner: Weber Republicans Dump Zogmaister; Ebert Wins Nomination

Our view?  The inaction of the Weber County Democratic party in this instance is an abject disgrace

Heartbreaking news for democracy in Weber County, as the Standard-Examiner reports this morning on the results of Saturday's Weber County GOP nominating convention, about which at least one prominent local social media commentator semi-privately characterizes as "a strong advertisement for the end of the caucus system in Utah." Read up folks, about how a "tally of about 600 [GOP] delegates ended Commissioner Jan Zogmaister's bid for a third term, and gave" a heretofore unknown political newcomer, somebody named James Ebert, "an easy ride into office because there is no Democratic contender to challenge him this November":
We're scratching ot heads, still wondering why the Weber County Democrats didn't field at least a couple of  "token" opposition candididates to run in the two "open" Weber County Commision races, which were, nominally at least, up for grabs this year.   Perhaps one of America's most notable political curmudgeons was entirely correct:
Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.

I
guess I deserve to get it good and hard. But I am going to hide in the
library because I know they will never find me there. In fact I bet
they don't even know where it is.

From what (little) I know about it, it will be a good thing to revisit the library bond issue. It sounded like a very expensive option that was slipped through in a special election. If they re-work it, it will be a good example of representative government. Remember, government is done by those who show up. Of course, I didn't show up to the convention myself.

What a pathetic posting. Instead of disparaging the Weber County Democratic party, you could have actually called Ben Pales, the Chair of the Weber Dems and asked him to explain to you how much the party tried to recruit candidates. Unfortunately, because of the ignorance and/or apathy of the average weber county voter, and because commission seats are county-wide and not representative of a part of the county, it is extremely difficult to win let alone recruit candidates. I know for a fact that the party even tried to get Ms. Zogmaister to come over to the better side. I wish she had. But she also knows the difficulty with not having that "holy" R by your name. The voters didn't support Amy Wicks or Corey Combe when they had a chance.
Why didn't you declare and run Mr. Blog Poster?

Please excuse my exasperation. Who could have predicted that both Kerry Gibson and James Ebert would be running entirely unopposed?

Please excuse my exasperattion. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that both Gibson and Ebert would be running with zero opposition.

it definitely is a nightmare, but one that can only be fixed once the voters wake up.

Apparently most of those who claim opposition to the Library bond could not be troubled enough to mark and return a pre-addressed postage free ballot.
