Best Utah County Story Ever

Former sanitizer of rental movies is accused of paying teens for sex

From this morning's Salt Lake Tribune:

Daniel D. Thompson's business catered to Utah residents offended by something as racy as a PG-13 movie. Now the former film sanitizer is accused of a crime by Orem police that is far more salacious than any date movie.

Thompson, 31, and Isaac R. Lifferth, 24, were arrested in Orem this week on suspicion of having sex with two 14-year-old girls. Orem police say the teenagers wanted to earn money to move out of their homes and offered sexual favors to men. [...]

Thompson formerly operated Clean Flix - a business in Orem that edited feature films to remove or alter conduct deemed inappropriate for children or discriminating movie-goers. The store closed in December after threats of legal action from Hollywood studios.
We swear noboby could make up a story like this. Truth once again proves itself stranger than fiction.

We'll leave it to our gentle readers to explain the meaning of all this... if any.

Comments, anyone?

Piety sells. Con men know this, which is why many pitches are wrapped in piety, the bible and liberally sprinkled with assertions of the scammer's faith in Jesus. The story reminded me of the scam artists who've been raising money from pious dupes for years, peddling shares in a Holy Land bible-based oil drilling company. The scammers say they will drill where the Bible tells them oil will be, and so cannot possibly end up with dry holes. "Clean Flicks" as a front for a kiddie porn operation? Not that surprising at all.

Long long ago, I made this a rule: when anyone tries to sell me anything by assuring me that the seller is a man [or woman] of faith, I get a tight grip on my wallet and run... not walk... in the opposite direction. It has served me well, that rule, over the years. I highly recommend it.

You are completely wrong Curmudgeon and Kevin!!!!

This is only more evidence of Satan's infiltration into Utah County, to prepare Utah County (and the natural body fluids of all Utah County residents) for SATAN'S NEW WORLD ORDER!

WAKE UP!

This story just illustrates the malignant and invasive nature of pornography. Here we have Daniel Thompson and Isaac R. Lifferth, probably good boys at the outset... probably Utah County ex-missionaries.. until they started editing pornography as a business.

Here is my post from the SLTrib article comments:

"This just goes to show how difficult it is to have exposure to sleaze and not be effected by it. It drags you down. I doubt they were always in the mire, but exposure leads to acceptance, which eventually pulls you under it's influence. Stay away from this stuff. It is very sad. None of us can afford to flirt with such temptation. It's easy to just look on and say "hypocrite", but that's not what this is. I doubt they started out thinking it would lead here. But it does. It is the ever strengthening grasp of evil upon those who give an inch here and an inch there. So in that regard, having the cleaner versions of movies are needed. Just too bad for those who have to do the editing. I did that a couple times myself, cutting out the bad so my relatives could enjoy a good movie without being effected. But I had to stop because I had to witness the stuff I was cutting out and it left impressions I didn't want to retain in my mind."

Don't blame Thompson and Lifferth. Their weak flesh couldn't resist the temptation of Satan, even in pious Utah County!

Persons in Utah who oppose and control sex education in our schools have their heads in the sand.

I feel they are responsible for creating the sick culture that is predominate in Utah regarding sex.

I am with "wake up call" -

Some sex education would alert teenage girls to the danger of deciding to become a prostitute.

Even the grade school kids are being offered sex without realizing what it leads to. That also includes instruction in STDs and HIV as well as pregnancy.

They should be taught how to recognize signs of improper conduct from a teacher.

Some kids get this counseling at home from parents but a great number of parents never discuss it with their child because their parents had never discussed it with them.

Also from this morning's print addition of the Tribune, page 4, "Capitol Watch"

Overheard:

"Did you draw a correlation between these diseases and conservatism?"

Majority whip Gordon Snow in response to another lawmaker's reference to skyrocketing rates of chlamydia and gonorrhea in Utah County.

(end of quote)

Utah County! The most holy of holies in all of Zion!!!

Yes indeed, the ladder days are upon us!

Well I thought I had a post right under Curm's agreeing with him. Maybe I didn't actually post it after all but no matter. After eating lunch I disagree with him. I also disagree with most of the rest of the posters.

Curm, it's not religiosity to be afraid of when someone asks you to invest. It's flattery. If you are irreligious, the con would use humanism to con you. What you have to ask yourself honestly is, "If this guy has such a good way to make fast money, why does he need MY chump change?" The con man will always have an answer, and it will always involve flattery. Pay attention the next time somebody tries to con you and you’ll see the same modus operandi every time.

As far as the evils of pornography: Yes, some people are obsessed by it. Just like some become obsessed with skiing, with internet surfing, with blog posting, with bowling, with knitting, with drugs, with alcohol, with tobacco, etc. etc.

Yet, most of us come into contact with such things in our lives to little effect, certainly not becoming "addicts".

What it the heck does it take for people to simply take responsibility - for themselves, for their kids, for at least their own actions?

And of course, had the government simply instructed these girls in such things, then they would have known better. Like they didn’t know better already?? Note they refused to make the porn movie, so they are not so unknowing after all. Teenagers are not the fragile, naïve, babes in the woods people think they are. Yes, if only the government had told them not to give the big O to a pair of old perverted men. Oh, if only. When will the government finally save us from our own choices? When, oh when?

Stop blaming your failures and weaknesses on others. Stop making excuses for others. Grow up and realize it's a big world out there, and one you get to choose what you do with. And give the rest of us the right to make those choices too, and to reap the rewards, and to pay the price, as it may be. Believe it or not, you do have the choice, and the power to make it.

Sheesh.

Moharni seems to think R-rated movies constitute pornography; methinks he or she should step out from behind mommy's apron, view the world at large, then be appropriately aghast at things that are actually "evil," such as Lying Little Matty Gondola Godfrey, Bob "Daddy's boy" Geiger and those who cheerlead his vile antics. My god, is this an adult human being? Cleanflicks aholes having to edit Basic Instinct has caused them to pursue pedophilia? If you think exposure to porn leads you down the path of Satan, then you have a very flimsy view of the human condition; it is a base defensive posture: it wasn't me, it was the porn! I didn't attempt to seduce 14-year-old girls, I was led into evil because I watched Girls Gone Wild! My gracious heavens, sir or madame, you are a dope of the highest order and there is a paramilitary squad that needs likeminded and unthinking souls. Contact Wayne Peterson, leader of his own famed Squirrel Patrol, or perhaps his new ever-widening captain, Blain Johnson. They need drones, drones who hate squirrels and have no ability to predicate. Your prompt attention is required.

If you look on YouTube the guy states that he is a swinger. He is under the Danny Thompson, not Daniel.

It's just easier for some people to blame "satan" than to take any responsibility for their own actions or to understand that life isn't always what it appears to be. Welcome to Utah, we are insane.

Salt H2O said...

WOW, that's a big wow.

First, cleanflicks never sold edited porn. So the whole porn/exposure leading to be a child molestor argument really doesn't work.

Second- Clean Flicks wasn't a con, there was/ is a market for edited movies. I like edited movies, they provided a service to many of us. Noni juice is a con.

Last- We're all accountable for our own actions, be it choosing to watch questionable matieral, educating our OWN children about sex or sleeping with minors, there is no one to blame but those committing the crime.

This story is simply ironic, nothing more, nothing less, but true irony in crazy Utah county.

Rob said...

BTW, you have been linked.

I agree with Kory, there was a market for it, however, even if it wasn't a con, the con was Daniel Thompson and I believe that it was unethical, and may have been illegal to edit those films without consent.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry, but these pederast "editors" have no right to alter films without the owners' consent. If you find the content of a film objectionable, don't watch it; it's the intellectual property of the studio or production company, and that entity does not grant permission to some Utah County ahole to take out nudity or profanity. It also seems that most Utah County autobots have little or no problem with stark portrayals of violence, yet take offense with simple words such as shit or the human anatomy. You people remind us why the rest of the country regards good old Utah as a backwater laughingstock. Well, that and GONDOLAs.

Not a single one of today's posters have suggested that this is the end result of prostitution as crime.

Legalize prostitution and men have an outlet for their natural rewuirements, as well as women (of legal age) who may engage in sexual relations by negotiation protected by the government. Young women engage in all kinds of risky activity "learning" about sex and relating to men. They get drunk at parties, sleep with strangers, hook up with the bad kid in school for protection. It's all because of the societal taboo on women negotiating for their own sexual statisfaction or performing sexual favors for men. It is all natural and natural that women should be able to negotiate without stigma. After all the alternative is that women do it all for free and suffer deep emotional scars as guys share their tales of conquest. A regulated system could even make the tales illegal. That would shut guys up and give women some leverage to protect their integrity.

Surely these young girls should not engage in prostitution, but they knew of it and attempted to use it to their advantage. Seems to suggest something. Women could be educated and informed of the risks and benefits of a life as a sexual purveyor. Why the hell not. Again, they do it anyway without pay and with scorn. Sick of it all. As a man, why must I waste so much time dating when I do not even desire a girlfriend. It's all so stupid.

I'm not justifying these men's behavior, but with legal outlet they likely would not be interested in inexperienced children no matter the offer. Will these girls and their parents be held to any account? I would not be surprised if these girls had already built a client list that includes minor boys who now may get a sexual offender rap.

Sorry, but the females involved were 14. That's a crime and would be and should be even if prostitution were legal. There's a case to be made for de-criminalizing adult prostitution. There's none to be made for the sexual exploitation of children.

Curm, I not sure about Brooklyn or Louisiana but Utah and this new age of consent is a very recent thing. Not that long ago marrying age was 15 for women.
In 1857 one traveler thru the territory of Utah remarked that not one single female over 14 exsisted in the whole territory.
In fact females 14 and 15 years old were the most desireable if anyone wanted a LARGE family. I suspect the recent change from women back to children has more to do with economics than morality. Public education cashes in based on head counts, they made a lot off of the difference of 4 years.
Many of the folks that seem so appalled by this have forgotten that their own grandmother or great grandmother had their first child at around 14 or 15.
I'm not condoning these guys, just thinking out loud. Times have changed, but have humans?

These girls stated that they schemed to do these tricks to get money to move away from home. It is entirely possible that they were escaping sexual and other abuse at home. Many girls who seek this route do admit just this kind of scenario. So in that case they would be escaping essentially sexual slavery and taking matters on their own. Sexual abuse in the home by parents and siblings is a dirty little secret that is widespread and hushed. At 14, these girls may not have the support and protection necessary to name the real culprits. They likely will be satisfied to have these two losers busted and leave the rest of the story for their therapist in five or ten years. If they ratted on a family member they could end up in a foster home. Not good options for a scared 14 year old.

Curm, My point was not that these girls might make good prostitutes. It was that these men would not likely have the interest and that their needs may be well serviced in a society that allows prostitution and honors that profession. Our current taboo state encourages a witches brew of deviant behavior.

My apologies. You made your point clearly. I made mine badly. What I meant to argue... and did very clumsily... was that decriminalizing prostitution for adults would not [the evidence suggests] diminish the "demand" so to speak for children in the sex trade, both to make kiddie porn and to work as underage prostitutes. There are, as I said, arguments to be made for decriminalizing adult prostitution, but that doing so will reduce the sexual exploitation of children or will reduce the demand for kiddie porn are not ones that can be sustained on the evidence, I think.
