What in the world has happened in Utah?

A plea to put a cattle-prod to Boss Godfrey

By Curmudgeon

What in this world has happened to Utah? The Salt Lake Tribune reports that a Utah Congressman today told the Utah legislature "to prepare for less oil flowing to the country." And he told the legislators "now is the time to apply for federal transit money -- before a critical mass of other states begins lining up to seek the funds.... "The competition is going to get more intense..." he said. "Utah is trying to accelerate its transit plan, and I would submit to you that now is the time to accelerate that process before a lot of people get in line."

And he spoke to the legislators about the sorry state of Utah's health care, and the need to muster state legislators and governors to overcome presidential vetoes to fix things:

Utah is 49th in per-capita health care coverage for its children [he said]. President Bush vetoed a bill that would expand coverage for children's health care, and the House was unable to muster the votes to override the veto.... "Lots of states are looking at different ways to approach the issue..." [and] "What it's going to take is governors of both parties coming back to Washington, saying 'We're ready...."

A congressman from Utah told the Utah legislature all that? Sacre blue! What is happening? Of course, the Congressman was Utah's only Democratic Congressman. But still.

The story can be found here. Will someone please send his or her comments on transit funds to the Mayor (Godfrey), who's blocking of Ogden's application for trolley or bus rapid transit funds is now beginning its third year, all to preserve his gondola dreams?

Curm: I agree.

But...but...how many proposals for an urban flatland gondola-gondola will the US Congress see in the next year? Mayor Godfrey's vision is truly unique, and as soon as it's ready to be presented to Congress, I'm sure it will receive the reception it deserves.

This hotel and water attraction will be a resounding success, as will be the Rec Center and surrounding mall.

Ogden is arising from the ashes inspite of you obstructionists who are doing everything you can to stop progress.

Mayor Godfrey is a truly gifted visionary who will prevail over all obstacles, including all of you here that take such delight in attacking him.

The mayor has assembled a brilliant and highly experienced team who are dedicated to bringing his visions to reality.

I anticipate that after his current term is up in four years that the people of Utah will be clamoring for him to run for congress and replace Matheson. He may even be called to the US Senate to replace Senator Hatch when he retires.

Ogden, and Utah, are very fortunate indeed to have a man of such high character, integrity and intelligence at the helm during this resurrection of our city and state. Without him we would all be doomed to a society of failure.

The train is leaving the station, I advise all of you to get aboard or be left behind.

Utah House Democrats Applaud Passage of Veterans Hospital Funding Bill

SALT LAKE CITY - January 24, 2008 - Veterans in northern Utah and from around the Rocky Mountain west will now have access to a second Veterans’ Nursing Home.

Legislators in the Utah House of Representatives have passed HB 129 today, which appropriates $19.7 million dollars for design and construction of a Veterans’ Nursing Home in Ogden. The legislation, which will prepay the costs associated with the construction of the facility, states that no other nursing homes will be considered in Utah until the federal government repays the state of Utah.

Democrats, Representative Neil Hansen, Ogden and LaWanna Shurtliff , Ogden, have both been ardent supporters of the Veterans Nursing Home project, and it was Representative Hansen who suggested that the state appropriate the necessary funds to build the nursing home. A $5,000,000 bond has previously been appropriated by the legislature, and land for the building has been donated to the Veterans Administration for the nursing home, but the project had been stuck on a growing list of projects awaiting federal funds.

“Everyday that passes by is another day that we're not giving our veterans back something for their service," says Hansen. "I suggested to my colleagues in the legislature that we find a way to fund the project with state dollars and have the federal government come in and reimburse us."

Representative Shurtliff agrees. “The Veterans Administration has wanted this for so long, and Utah veterans have needed this for so long. I feel strongly that we need this to happen, and I was even willing to sponsor the bill so that we could get things moving,” said Shurtliff.

It was Representative Hansen who suggested that the appropriation be included in the Governor’s budget.

“I approached the Governor’s office and asked them to consider adding this to the governor’s budget. I am pleased that we are moving forward.”

The federal government will also pay nearly all operating costs of the nursing home.

GTW, is that G-train wilkerson? Nice prediction how ever, I might point out that with baggage the likes of short deck, potato nose and hiding in the closet Tom Moo... I mean Cavendish, I can't imagine lying little matty's future so bright as to require ray ban shades. Cavendish will act like a boat anchor around his neck in Utah. Something about little boys. Old men and young girls get a sort of historic cultual pass sometimes, more inline with the states historic, cultural and religious roots.

Your understanding of the real world is simply breathtaking! For once I am simply without words.

Gtw:

Don't know how to break this to you, compadre, but Cong. Matheson does not represent N. Utah and Ogden in Congress. If the voters of Ogden want to send Hizzonah to DC as a Representative, he will have to unseat Congressional cypher and fellow Republican Rob "Bobble Head" Bishop, who, sadly and god help us, is Northern utah's Congressman.

Think I'll pass on taking political commentary seriously from someone who thinks Matheson is Ogden's congressman.

Curm, G-train was informing us of lying little matty's future moving from Ogden. Aparently all this high adventure stuff is attracting the type of folks that he would rather not raise his family around.

Curm I dont think that a cattle prod would work. The only way that Godfrey will ever get the hint is if he and his core group of followers recieve some type of devine revelation.

Do you have any connections with Gordy?

gtw, I think I have a little throw up in my mouth now.

What does G-Train Wilkinson mean, or who is that? My name is George, and so far the reaction to my post is just about what I expected from the group of mindless reactionaries on this site.

None of you can handle the truth. Mayor Godfrey is the best thing that has happened to Ogden in my life time as well as yours. You are either with the program or you are against it, you are either with the mayor or you are against him. If you are against him I suggest you leave Ogden. We don't want nor need your kind in Ogden.

O.K. George, please give us a summary of just what lying little matty gondola has done that hasn't resulted in City debt, Is there anything that has actually paid off?

george whatever

Will you be so kind as to tell us when your train is leaving so that we can all meet at the station and wave goodbye. Btw George if the Sol Cent and waterpark make it, dinner is my treat. You can order whatever, but crow might be the most appropriate.

It should be you on the train and the crow will be your dish.

The Mayor is a winner and most of you on this site are losers. Losers are always jealous and contemptuous of winners.

Get on the bus or get run over by the bus, it doesn't matter one way or the other to us.

to godfrey the winner

tell us what convinces you that you are so good for the city.
have you lowered taxes.
have you lowered our city indebtedness.
have you really improved that level of business in this town percentage wise compared to the surrounding communities.
have you lowered crime.
have you maintained our infrastructure.
have you brought this community together and created a feeling of pride in this community.

to godfrey the whuz.....
You may be right what's your name. The league of obstructionists may opt for trains or buses to leave what is left of our beloved town after you axxholes get through bankrupting it. Spending taxpayer money on stupid ideas appears to be your claim to fame. Yes, most of us on this site may well end up losers with people like you calling the shots. Think about it dumbass - a rational thought might be good for you.
