Standard-Examiner: Former Ogden Mayor to Help Morgan Lure a Hotel, "Boost" Economy

“He has the expertise to pull everything together and bring a hotel to town. He’s done it.”

On the heels of January's news that Matthew Godfrey has set up shop in the private sector with a private municipal consulting service, the Standard now announces that Godfry has booked his first paying gig:
“He has the expertise to pull everything together and bring a hotel to town. He’s done it,” sez Morgan City Councilman Ray Little (with a completely straight face).

Hold on tight to your wallets, Morgan City lumpencitizens. Your local economy is about to be boosted!

Real story might be Godfrey calling in Standard Examiner  IOU's to get free advertising. Business may not be all that good for the ex-mayor...

I cannot believe the SE reporter left the most interesting question unaddressed:  will the gondola stop be in the lobby of the hotel, or in a separate structure across the parking lot?

As you once again prove, Professor Becker, you're an extremely wise man, depite the fact that your political affiliations trend toward "Yellow Dog Demo obstinacy.

Neverthless, an yes indeed, a Morgan City/Snow Basin uphill gondola link has to be what these Morgan City councilpersons are thinking about, in the back of their minds.

Yes... We can see now this all but certain upcoming S-E headline shortly in the near future, via in our trusty crystal ball:

Formerly bucolic Morgan, the next Park City!

As usual, Godfrey  continues to prey on the flat out dumbest people in Morgan City.

Can we assume that this teeny contract is the only thing Godfrey has come up with in these past few months?  Ouch.

godfrey is being paid taxpayer money to help write grant applications to help a potential hotel qualify for government loans and guarantees to build a hotel. The hotel will ask for and likely receive tax breaks and lower or reduced taxes. That is not being a entrepreneur. What Godfrey 9is selling is smeone elose9taxpayers) taking the risks and someone else reaping the benefits. If a project cannot entince private funds perhaps it is not a worthwhile risk. But either way success or failure Godfrey will make his money. Wait until he assures Morgan taxpayers that no taxpayer monies will ever be needed to pay off the venture.

Maybe I'm missing something here but WHY would I want to spend the night in Morgan?

Well, it occurs to me a hotel in Morgan would be very convenient for PETA demonstrators next time they decide to protest the mink farms. They could get out on the picket line earlier, stay longer if they can get rooms in Morgan and not have to travel back down to the valley at the end of the day.  Very thoughtful of the Morgan town fathers to ease the path of protest I think.

Somehow this will translate or involve the county....er Mountain Green....thats the "logical" place for a hotel....for Snowbasinintes...perhaps....look a the Red Moose Lodge though in Ogden Valley....couldn't make it and now will be an assisted living center....in the middle of recreation mecca....good luck with one in Morgan itself....and good luck with Godfrey getting paid to show you how to really leverage your tax dollars in ways unimaginable.  It's actually quite hilarious he's pulling this off with these lemmings....

One more thought...

When he gets done fleecing the fine citizens of Morgan, he's going to make Garth Day look like Ghandi

Blackrulon said...

Well at least Morgan City is thinking is scaling back. Last summer in July  Garth Day, former Morgan County Council Administrator, pled guilty in federal court to embezzling $1 million dollars. Sure the money Morgan City gives Matthew Godfrey will be a waste but they are going to lose a lot less money on this fiasco.

It's an analogy BR....in the long run, what's MG going to REALLY cost the people of Morgan....giving the proverbial farm away to attract a few flies?....if a hotel was needed and could be profitable for Morgan City, there would be one there already without a bunch of handouts and freebees….but its not without taking much if not all the risk out….that’s where the real money is going to go….leverage up the City!  I thought they seemed to have learned their lesson and tightened things up fiscally in Morgan, now this?....we’re living the debt MG left with us now…Morgan will be next…then up I-80 to Evanston and so on and so on
As Hoover would say….”A hotel in every pot!”

Question:  Would anyone be surprised to see good old hot tub hotelier Kevin Garn magically show up with a hotel proposal for Morgan?....
