Weber State Football: Big First Quarter Helps Wildcats Outlast Lumberjacks in Season Opener

Next victim: The Utah Utes

We're Back!
Congrats to our WSU Wildcats, for their big win in yesterday's season home opener, as our home-town football team ignored unnerving off-field distractions and knocked off offensive powerhouse Stephen F. Austin in front of 6,181 fans at Stewart Stadium by a score of 50-40.  Here are the post-game write-ups via the Standard and the D-News:
In an interesting "companion" story, The Standard's Roy Burton also reports that our Wildcats accomplished yesterday's victory with at least "8 hands" "tied behind their backs," which makes the "big" win all the more impressive, we suppose:
The last time Weber State put 50 points on the board was that memorable 50-47 4OT victory against Northern Colorado in September of 2010, of course. Hopefully however, yesterday's result is not a "quirk," but is instead indicative of a team "on a roll."

Not much time to savor the victory however, Wilcats fans, as our re-charged 'Cats gridiron squad travels to Rice-Eccles Stadium to take on the 1-0 Utah Utes next Saturday at noon, a game you'll not want to miss, as we once again resume our "usual" live game-day coverage, starting next week.

Eight guys suspended, that'd be 16 hands tied behind their backs.

It was a fun game to watch. And free tee shirt night too. Good win.

Hope the Cats find a solution to the big problem of the night: SFAU passed wide deep pretty much at will all night. Gave up 400 yards through the air.

Looks like the WSU defense and special teams made all the difference, with three interceptions (one for a 70-yard TD) and Bolen's 100 yd. kickoff return.
