Standard-Examiner: Both Parties Converge On WSU Tomorrow For Their Respective County Nominating Conventions

Weber County Forum endorses GOP individual property rights advocate Craig Call in House District 6

This morning's Standard-Examiner focuses on tomorrow's Democratic and Republican County Nominating Conventions, where county delegates will attempt to thin the field of candidates in contested intra-party races. This morning's digital and hard-copy editions also provide a handy graphic, summarizing the contested races for each major party:

In yesterday's WCF article we proudly endorsed Terry Thompson for Sheriff and offered this comment, respecting that endorsement:
Seriously though, we're proud to join Sheriff Slater in endorsing Terry Thompson for Weber County Sheriff. Among all prospective candidates for all Weber County 2010 offices, we believe Terry's the most clear standout in any of the county-wide races.
With twenty-twenty hindsight however, and having now examined the above list, we confess we might have been a might hasty in narrowing our "standout" list to merely one single candidate.

And it's in that connection that we'll now shine the spotlight on yet another convention candidate whom we believe deserves a good long hard look. So Weber County GOP Leg. 6 convention delegates, please take note:

Within the State House District 6 race you'll find the name Craig Call. For those of you who are unaware, this is the same Craig Call who founded the Utah Office of the Property Rights Ombudsman and ran it for over ten years. Mr. Call has been a true friend of Utah property owners over the years, and as long-time WCF readers will remember, it was Mr. Call's office which leveled the playing field for Ogden River Project property owner Mike Moyal, with that office's 2007 ruling that Emerald City's then-existent and ill-conceived 6-month River Project property development moratorium was illegal under Utah law.

Inasmuch as Mr. Call hasn't apparently been deeply involved in Legislative District 6 GOP politics until quite recently, and may be an unfamiliar name to many of you, we're delighted to shine the spotlight on Mr. Call's candidacy. For Weber County Convention delegates, especially those from Leg. District 6, we urge you to visit Mr. Call's campaign website and learn a little more about an individual property rights advocate who deserves local star status, as far as we're concerned:
Call on Craig for Utah State Legislator
Based on the foregoing, we hereby proudly offer our second pre-convention endorsement... for House District 6 GOP candidate Craig Call.

That's it for now, O Gentle Ones.

Who'll be the first to chime in respecting Mr. Call's candidacy, or concerning any of the other contested races listed in the graphic above?

Hey Rudi,
It looks as if you are writing this from sandusky. I thought your blog was and is non partisan. Why all the republican attention and non one the democrats. I know that there is only one race in the democratic side but can't you at least give some equal time for them.
I would like to here what your thoughts would be on the Hansen vs Garcia race.

Hansen over Garcia! It's such a no-brainer that I didn't even feel the need to mention it.

I already addressed this intra-party contest in an earlier article of course:

"We're scratching our heads, frankly, wondering what's gotten into Garcia, as he challenges 11-term Rep. Hansen for the Leg. 9 House Representative slot."

Read on:

Caucus Night Tonight: Be Careful Which Conventon Delegates You Choose

It should be no secret that WCF is a fan of Hansen, (even though we also believe Garcia is a fine and decent man.)

Happy now?

;-)

Rudi:

Is it true that delegates to the Weber County Republican Convention have been offered discount coupons for hot tub rentals at a local spa? Or was that only for delegates to the Davis County Convention?

Inquiring minds want to know!

There will be no hot tub certificates for Weber County GOP delegates, Curm. shame on you for starting up such a scurrilous rumor.

I can however confirm that Senate 18 GOP candidate (turncoat Democrat) Stuart Reid did show up at last night's County GOP executive Committee meeting... and offered all State Delegates free back rubs.

Rudi,

It would be helpful if you had a right sidebar link to you recommendations, similarly to the way you had those "Ogden City Voting Guides."

That way, we can look up the names on our way to the polls.

In spite of Curm's true but irrelevant assertions of how we have the opportunity to choose thoughtfully, most of us just ask someone we trust, if we even go that far.

The truth is, most go to the polls with little or no information, thanks to the useless mainstream news media.

Blogs like this one are very much appreciated, therefore.

Well Danny, there is more to it than that. Here in Utah we always choose the "R". In fact we even have "CTR" rings to reminds us of who to choose. It really simplifies the whole deal and takes the thinking out of it. It is rather comforting to have the lord make these decisions for us, and of course we know the lord won't let any one use the coveted "R" by their name if they are not "righteous". That's what the "R" stands for in case you didn't know.

Fot those of you that would like to donate some time cleaning up the Ogden East Bench.

There is a spring cleaning taking place tomorrow (Saturday) at 8:30 - meeting at the St. Joes parking lot.

Aside from trash and dog poop there is plenty to clean. My goal is to remove the twin bed that somebody hauled up there last fall.

Thanks to all that come

Rudi - you and others on WCF keep writing, "11-term Rep. Hansen..."
Just for clarification Hansen has been the rep for 11 years not 11 terms. Just thought you might want to know.

I hope Hansen has another 11 terms!!!
