Conflict of interest? You be the judge
Just as gentle reader Smaatguy earlier predicted here at Weber County Forum, the Standard-Examiner reports this morning that North Ogden City has hired Boss Godfrey's whiz-bang, private economic development consulting firm, Better Cities, to "help vitalize the commercial district in North Ogden" at a cost to the North Ogden taxpayers of $38,000 over the next year:
“I told them I would play Santa Claus and to give me their wish list, and we would see what we could do,” Godfrey said, possibly confusing the issue of who's truly acting the part of the real Santa Claus in this new scenario.
Earlier this month, the Standard revealed (and we reported), that Better Cities had reached a similar agreement with North Ogden's neighbor to the north, Box Elder County, once again provoking the ethical question which we raised in our 8//12 article update, "Under what circumstances, if any, would Godfrey's representation of multiple municipalities (or local government entities) along the Wasatch Front constitute a conflict of interest?"
Conflict of interest? You be the judge.
So what about it O Gentle Ones? Is there an aspiring business ethics expert in the house?

I barfed on my SE edition today....
"Although Godfrey’s firm does work for other cities in the area, he said his firm is careful to not have competition issues among the cities it represents."...oh, pleeeeze... pull my finger...how big of a pot is really out there to pull from?
"Godfrey suggested the city send out bids to development firms, and he said his firm was lucky enough to win the bid."....I'm running out of fingers....looks like now know who possible wrote or helped write that bid proposal?....
How long will it be until North Ogden hears "we have a developer ready to go...we just can't tell you who it is"....
Yes, North Ogden, There Is No Santa Claus! Can you believe the arrogance of this little feller? When will some people learn, if ever? The saga continues and the fleecing goes on. Pull my finger and see what you get, the same thing that North Ogden City will get soon. WOW
Where is the gondola going to operate?
Guard your wallets, citizens of North Ogden!
Interesting revelation from the Utah Business Entity Search site. Very Funny, actually:
It appears that Godfrey's company, "Better Cities," hasn't yet quite made the effort to comply with Utah law, and to register its fictitious business name with the state, as required by law. We are NOT making this up:
Search Results for "Better Cities"
one cannot be expected to do those trivial things when one is busy being Santa Claus
He is not permitted to talk about it just yet.
sounds a bit like old fish me thinks
is this the same guy that came down on a little coffee house sandwich board sign on Harrison?....busting grandmas for a few weeds in the lawn....ect ect ect
Ummm..one more thought...don't these city's inking these contracts have purchasing rules?..as in ...show us your insurance, your business license ect ect ect....
How about providing us a competitive bid tab showing that he really won this contract, rather being given a gift. I thought Santa gave, not received?
Good luck...it will be the old "they were the best qualified"...that rfp was in the paper for such a short time, who knows if anyone else even saw it....they might have been the only ones submitting
I guess it's true what they say..."It takes a Village to hire an idiot"
someone ought to set up their own company and register it with the "better cities" name before he does.
This further confirms what kind of sleazeball Matt Godfrey really is. And all the "naysayers" here were right: Matt Godfrey couldn't get a job in the private sector so he had to start his own scheister business. Please Standard Examiner, do a little investigative journalism and report that Better Cities isn't even a registered business!
