Spotlight on Today's Most Peculiar Standard-Examiner "Comic" Insert

A Mark Shurtleff campaign propaganda piece, posing as a tribute to the Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution?

By Curmudgeon

In this morning's Standard-Examiner, there is an insert, a comic book treatment of the writing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, followed by a comic book treatment of kids trying to set up a new government on a distant world.

Some of the text is not strictly accurate, but it's clearly for young kids, and much of it is accurate.

Until you turn it over and get to the last page, the Mark Shurtleff page. [Did he pay for the circular? I sure hope the taxpayers didn't.]

The last page has four comics panels. One, top left, has two dark and sinister figures, with glowing dyes, crouched in a foxhole, staring at the reader. Text: "Our enemies lie in wait...."

Below that, panel with two exploding bombs. Text: "But no matter what they try...."

Below that, a pic of the Constitution. Text: "Our constitution will stand... as long as we have the courage to defend it."

The entire right hand side of the page... well, it beggars description. Text at the top reads: "Meanwhile, at the office of Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff..." Beneath that, a picture of Shurtleff, white shirt and tie, looking like he's been doing steroids --- think "The Hulk" just seconds before conversion. Grim face, fingers curled in huge fists. Bubble text: "I have a sworn duty to protect the constitution of the United States, and of Utah." Second bubble lower down: "Learn how I'm protecting your rights at www.attorneygeneral.utah.gov"

It's really embarrassing. I presume this was intended as a campaign propaganda piece, in the works before Shurtleff suspended his Senate campaign. It is really god awful. Don't miss it if you take the paper. And if you don't take the paper, spring for a copy. The Shurtleff page is worth the four bits by itself. Painfully bad.

And someone on Shurtleff's campaign thought that last page would make him appear a sound choice for Senator?

Incredible. Just incredible.

Editor's Addendum:
The Mark Shurtleff Page
Too funny.

Good Catch, Curm.

Isn't this the dweeb that dumped his bike going 4 miles an hour, and now tells people what to do from a Dr. Strangeglove'eque wheelchair?
Now, he is going to go all Hulk on people on other planets who are not Mormon, white Republicans?

I am indeed a stranger in a strange land.

He wants to protect the constitution but can prosecute the little man on the ninth floor for stealing 3,000,000.00 of tax payer money for the Ogden community foundation. Oh I forgot it is OK as long as they say that money is helping the school kids. Where is the protection Mark. Where are the laws that you should be enforcing. Get off your dead butt and go after this. Show us that the money didn't go into Godfrey's pocket.
