We don't know how to frame this story except to say it's disappointing. Trolley Square hero Ken Hammond has resigned from The Ogden City Police Department, with heretofore unproven criminal charges and a flaky civil lawsuit brought by drunken people pending in the background. This breaking news from the Standard-Examiner "live" website:

Sad as hell, as we said.

Not to worry. with the exit of Officer Hammond, we still have the Brave Mayor Godfrey, and the macho Chief Greiner to watch our backs.

The charges are pending. We don't know at this point if they have merit or they don't. Officer Hammond chose to resign. Not wise to leap to conclusions at this point.
If he is guilty of what is being alleged, and I don't have any idea if he is, but if he is, his bravery on a subsequent occasion does not and should not earn him a free pass on a prior crime.
Wrong to leap to judgment, either about his innocence or guilt when all we have so far is an allegation and charges being brought.
Rudi, you have a pretty biased and bizarre take on this. I mean I fully support the OPD as you know, but to lay this off as if it were one more case of perfidy on the part of the Lil Lord is a bit of a stretch. What if he is guilt? Why would the County Attorney press charges against a "hero" if he didn't have some pretty good evidence. What if he does have a history of sexually abusing female suspects? What if he is a bad cop? Does his one some what "heroic" action at the Trolley shooting give him a free pass to be a rogue cop? Why would he resign if he were innocent?
Just wondering.

We would like to thank Officer Hammond for his dedication and professionalism in any dealings we had with him in his tenure with OPD ...
