New Thread: Dan S. Channels Live From This Afternoon's UTA Transit Meeting

Real time live-blogging updates? No promises
By Dan Schroeder

I'm now at a "management committee" meeting for the Ogden transit project. The leader has just announced that today, unlike the earlier meetings, I and the other uninvited guests may not speak during the meeting. Time to settle in for a long afternoon.

I don't plan to live-blog the whole meeting but if there's anything especially dramatic I'll try to post something.

Breaking news: Chris Peterson just came into the room and sat down at the transit management committee meeting.

So he still lives ...

Does Chris have to wear the gag like you and the other rabble in the peanut gallery?

Dan S. said...

Oz,

I guess so. He's sitting near me, not at the table.

Which leaves us wondering what plans Chris has that would lead him to spend time at such a meeting.

There's a very contentious discussion going on, continuing from previous meetings, over the relative merits of putting the streetcar on 25th vs. 30th vs. 36th. At this point we have more data on the tradeoffs than before but not enough to put it all together and look at the bottom line. So the discussion is just another repeat of everyone's prejudices.

Just an interested citizen (from Sandy), looking for a smoother commute.

Next meeting will be in 3-4 weeks, and final decisions won't be made then either. Still, opinions are becoming more rigid and it's getting harder to change the outcome.

I imagine Mr. P. is there to make sure whatever trolley alignment is adopted,it will carry people to the base of his dreamed-of gondola [that won't go to Snow Basin] to serve his dreamed-of vest-pocket mini-ski resort in Malan's Basin, plus the vacation villas he wants to build on public land by the base station too.

Dan:

What do you figure is the "preferred" alignment, at least in terms of vote strength?

Don't forget CP owns property down near the FrontRunner station. And don't forget that when he purchased this land (through Bootjack) he said he couldn't reveal his plans for the property just yet, but he would (soon, I believe was his word) and it would be something Ogden residents would be excited about. So my guess is that his "plans" for that land have something to do with the alignment of the transit system.

wildcat,

There's a chance that we'll soon learn something about why Peterson (through Bootjack) purchased the Bloom's property. Any city records concerning this purchase would fall under the recent court order in our GRAMA lawsuit. The city must either provide the records or give us an itemized list of them with explanations of why they're being withheld.
