Emerald City City Council Assigned a Nanny

Special project for a former mayor/councilman

We have something special for our gentle readers this morning, something which will undoubtedly contribute to your weekend merriment and mirth. We link below a copy of an email received by each of our city council members late yesterday afternoon. Boss Godfrey has hired a nanny, to ride herd over our city council:

Boss Godfrey 10/17/08 Email

No "feelers" to the council; no preliminary discussions -- just an imperial edict from the throne room on nine.

We swear NOBODY could make this stuff up.

Gawd do we love Ogden politics!

Well.... ?

What a joke. Does he really need someone else to put a spin on his lies, and with holding of information?

If the little pecker would enroll in a charm school and take his medications he may not need an assistant.

I think we should put some prick-b-gone in his cool aide.

Problem:
Mayor Godfrey's insulting, condescending, and manipulative dealing.

His solution:
More of the same.

Please note that Clifford Goff is such an arrogant, pushy, condescending man himself that he was voted out years ago and replaced with the mousy Scott Sneddon.

The council members should take this as proof that Godfrey can never be trusted, and will never change.

Rudi again nails it: Goff is a "nanny" to ride herd on Godfrey's "children", since Godfrey has thrown up his hands at their "misbehavior". It's Godfrey's way of showing his "humility".

Perhaps the council could give this feedback, being sufficiently polite for Curm and Dan S.

Dear Mayor,

Given that recently you:

Lied to Ogden Properties about the zoning on the Windsor,

Lied to certain Landmarks Commission members, concealing the fact that OPs plans would violate historical guidelines,

Lied to the city council about all of it,

Rounded up a gaggle of your toughs to try to intimidate us,

Used staff members and certain LC members to perpetuate your fraud,

And as you use lies, distortion, fraud, and intimidation against us generally,

We are sure Cliff will have a lot to do to finesse your associations with others. Please give him this note and tell him when he is working with you he should also watch his own back.

Thank you Mayor.

The City Council has been insubordinate and inobedient to our blessed mayor. Calling in a stake president makes perfect sense. Order must be restored in MattGodfreyWorld, and president Goff is just the man to accomplish that!

LDS Council members had better be sure their tithing is fully paid up, if they know what's good for them!

A word to the wise should be sufficient.

Just a suggestion: Howbout having the council hire a shrink (or a team of shrinks) to treat the little twerp's obvious Napoleon Complex?

Question:

Who will compensate our already overloaded council for the time they waste being lobbied by Boss Godfrey's Toadie, Mr. Goff?

I've thought for a long time that Narcissistic Personality Disorder, is a more accurate diagnosis. The solution is for the CC members to simply refuse to waste their time meeting with Goff.

goff is to be godfreys advance scout to check out the opposition agruements before godfrey get there with his scheme. i.e. advanced knowledge of the enemy movements so to speak and an opportunity to cull the weakest on an issue out of the herd prior to the public votes. this allows godfrey to have prepared counter arguments or discredit the positions developed by the cc just before the city public meetings. this individual is meant to assist the mayor in undermining and discrediting the cc members.
dont be surprised if goff sets up a meeting on an issue and he brings montgomery or a whole staff of people to educate you or even godfrey himself to press the members position.
if godfrey truely wants to work with the cc he should be respectful with the cc members and he should do it himself and he should do it in a public setting. this allows godfrey to advocate his agenda in a private manner that is once again closed door government and it allows godfrey to distance himself from the commitments or comments made by goff should godfrey later decide to not be follow through on those comments or should those comments be later proven to not be accurate.
cc should not meet with goff or participate with in such dialog. obviously godfrey does not give the cc much credit for being smart enough to see what he is up to. just like the dare program just say no.

Disgusted:

Would you mind abandonining the lower case bullshit, and start posting with capital letters and all that?

Reading your posts is an impediment to those of us who scan and read quickly.

Most us know you're a highly intelligent man, with good background on planning issues.

Ge real, Disgusted.

Please.

My suggestion as to what the CC's response to Godfrey should be is: "I'll meet with Goff when you meet with a psychiatrist and go to charm school!"

Who does the mini-mayor think he is? Someone should remind him that the Council is on equal ground with the mayor. You don't behave like that to your peers! I wonder if Godfrey's school year book heading was "The Most Inept Social Misfit?"

Wow.

Just, wow.

Are we sure it is Clff Goff, and not his brother Jack?

Same difference I suppose.

Well... several things come to mind:

(1) Council/Administration relations are a mess, the capper being the Mayor's reneging on his agreement that the city's lobbyist would work only on projects agreed to by both the Mayor and the Council. Hizzonah having established in a very public way that his word is no good, it's hardly surprising that there is little trust in him or his word among many council members.

(2) This is not a good situation for Ogden to be in, given that Hizzonah was recently re-elected and, like it or not, he will be Mayor for at least three more years. Restoring some kind of effective working relationship between the Council and the Mayor is essential for Ogden to be well-governed over the next three years. Given that....

(3)Tasking someone in the Administration to focus exclusively on Council relations is not necessarily a bad idea... had the idea been first discussed with the Council leadership, and some discussion following regarding who both the Mayor and the Council thought might be effective in such a role.

(4)However, that seems not to have happened. What seems to have happened is the Mayor said "here's my liaison guy. Talk to me through him." I'd be tempted to reply [since Danny asked] by telling the Mayor... not his liaison guy... to "have your people contact my people." Staff to staff. That if Hizzonah wanted to talk to me, he has my number. Call any time.

(5)It seems [pending further information] that Hizzonah has, as he so often has in the past, taken what might have been a workable idea and, through ham-fisted implementation, leeched it of much of its potential value.

For the benefit of us gentiles, could someone state definitively whether Mr. Goff is currently a stake president and if so, whether any council members reside within his stake?

Aww, remember when Gentiles were leading the city, having fun, no kiddy land, laughing on 25th street, bringing in real business, having street festivals, actually leading the city. Now we have not open on Sunday, a kiddyland with arcade, only good tithers recieving special tratment from the city subsidizing their businesses, public recreation and community centers budget cuts, or un-substanciated debts looking like they are drowning the city.

Special friends appointed to commissions, city jobs, and threats to those that don't follow the administrations rules. Elections that were manipulated with bogus and harrasing claims to keep people away, to deny their rights as voters, electionering gone amoke.

Oh please bring back the good old days and low adventure.

Disgusted:

Rudi is right. You wouldn't dare write to a judge, prospective employer, or Standard editor Gibson without capitalization and punctuation if you expected to be taken seriously. Why can't you extend the same respect to the rest of us?

Anonymous said...

JESUS, RUDI, DON'T YOU THINK THAT'S A LITTLE HARSH? I PERSONALLY HAVE A MUCH HARDER TIME WITH PEOPLE WHO POST IN ALL-CAPITAL LETTERS SO THEY SEEM SORT OF LIKE THEY'RE PERMANENTLY STUCK IN WILKERSON-MODE. (johnlaw's post excepted, that was probably my favorite today. ;D)

I MEAN IF YOU WERE WRITING IN TO GONDOLA EDITOR GIBSON OR APPLYING FOR A JOB YOUD WANT TO USE BETTER PUNCTUATION OR PERHAPS ANY PUNCTUATION BUT THIS IS A FRIGGIN BLOG FOR GODFREYIN OUT LOUD YALL NEED TO RELAX I MEAN I DIDNT EVEN REALIZE ANYTHG WAS WRONG W HIS POST TIL U SAID SOMETHG I MEAN CMON THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY WITH TXT MSG & ABBRV EVERYWHR PUNCT IS SO PASSE & SO 20TH CENT

[Good hell.. I had to proofread that last paragraph twice to take out the punctuation a actually *did* put in.. lol]

Rudi:

If Sara Palin doesn't have to use standard English, whole sentences, words that actually connect with each other to convey meaning, and she can be nominated for Vice President, seems harsh to dome down on Disgusted for ignoring a punctuation rule or two. Hell, G.W. Bush can't do it either and he became President, and look how well he's done in office.

Who knows? Disgusted may be preparing to be the next Republican candidate for President, you betcha!

Trust comes from acting trustworthy. No amount of "mediators" can erase a history of underhanded tactics from the administration.

I'm sure the slant from the SE will paint this as the council being horrible and impossible to work with thus requiring this solution so our noble Mayor can continue to make Ogden heaven on Earth.

Interestingly enough, there was an outside guy that was going to propose to the council the idea of the city hiring him to be a mediator for conflict resolution trainings with Council and the Mayor. I guess the mayor wanted to jump on it before the council got any ideas and get his own personal pick of "assistant".

city council should just say no
