Utes 49, Rams 16; Wildcats 17, Bears 10

Northern Utah collegiate sports update

Utes football: No. 13 Utah trounces CSU 49-16

This makes the BCS bowl contender with the Utes now at 8-0. Watch this and weep, BYU fans, as the Utes leap over the Cougars in the national poll ratings.

Weber State U. gets by Northern Colorado State by a touchdown, and winds up 4-0 in Big Sky Conference play:

Higgins leads Weber St. past N. Colorado 17-10

A "win is a win," afterall, according to the ole sports axe.

Congrats to the Utes and the Wildcats!

And what say our gentle readers about all this winning?

If the Utes win out, they should be BCS busters. Two big games stand in the way, I think: TCU and BYU. That right? Go Utes!

If the Wildcats win out, they stand a very good chance of making the I-AA playoffs. Two big games stand in the way, I think. E. Washington and N. Arizona. That right? Go Wildcats!

BTW, Frontrunner to SLC this AM, 9:07 train, nearly all seats full in our car. Many Ute fans heading to the game. Frontrunner running extra sections down and back for the game crowds.

Frontrunner returning to Ogden [2:25 PM train]... I'd estimate fifty or so detrained in SLC from the arriving train. Something like sixty or seventy detrained in Ogden [and many others got off along the way]. And this was not a game crowd. FR seems to still be doing some business on Saturdays.

Big red temporary sign up at the Ogden station this AM on the ramp to the platform saying "NO SUNDAY SERVICE." I wonder if on previous Saturdays, folks headed down for a game and night in SLC, only to discover amid a Sunday AM hangover that they couldn't ride the train back home. BIG red sign.

There were a lot more fans at the Weber State game yesterday. Don't know if it was the 2 for 1 coupon for tickets, but it was nice to see.

The game was, well, to be nice, a win. I guess you take them any way you can, but turning the ball over 3 times in the "Red Zone" wasn't good.

OT:

No, not good. But made for an exciting game, in the wood until the final whistle. I much prefer those to 47-3 blowouts, which tend to be kind of dull over the final quarter at least. Saturday's game was not dull.
