Primary Election Day Reminder: Today's Utah Primary Race Splits Tea Party Over Senate Seat

Weber County Forum endorses Tim Bridgewater

We'll let this morning's Standard-Examiner story serve as a reminder of today's Utah GOP Primary Election, wherein candidates Tim Bridgewater and Mike Lee square off to lay claim for the Republican nomination for Senator Bennett's soon to be vacated U.S. Senate seat:
Utah's primary race splits tea party over Senate seat
The 2010 Weber County Primary Election consists of just this single race. Remember folks, this is a Closed Republican Primary, which means that only registered Republicans will be issued a ballot.

Unsure of your voting precinct? Visit Lieutenant Governor Bell's Voter Information Webpage, enter your name, birthdate, county of residence and house number, and the polling place locator utility will automatically generate your precinct number and the address of today's polling place:
Polling Place Locator Utility
Please contact the Weber County Clerk at (801)399-8034 for further information.

For those readers who may be curious about our Weber County Forum endorsement, we're pleased to announce that after considerable cogitation, we've decided to throw the mighty weight of WCF behind candidate Tim Bridgewater, largely as a result of the savvy reader discussion occurring in the comments section beneath Saturday's WCF writeup, wherein, among other things, former Councilwoman Jeske incorporated this Message from Bob Lonsberry. That whole disturbing Mike Lee Energy Solutions connection is a real deal-killer for us; and we weren't very happy about candidate Lee's action in rudely blowing off the Utah Federation of Republican Women, either.

And remember, Weber County Republicans: due to the short candidate slate, it's likely that today's primary will have a relatively low voter turnout, which means that your vote will have a much greater impact than in the General Election in November. For those voters who appreciate the opportunity to wield magnified political clout, today's Primary is made to order for you.

The polls will remain open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. We urge all GOP-registered WCF readers to make a special point to get out to your polling place to cast your vote.

The floor is now open for our readers' ever-interesting remarks.

Who will be the first to comment?

Remember, only registered Republicans can vote.
If you want your country Forward, you will not be voting today.

Between global warming denial from a bunch of science-haters, pandering to nut-job arm-chair constitutional "experts", preaching forced-from-Washington social conservativeness whilst simultaneously wanting "less government", and siding with Big Oil filth over small business needs...

We doubt anyone but an Idiot would be at the Utah polls today,
The Republican Party is passe, unless you are
A: an uneducated dolt from the deep south
B: your dad was a Republican, and you are too.
c: you believe America is a shining beacon on a hill, even while it crumbles around you and your fat US posterior
d: you are old and used up, politically, spiritually, intellectually, and morally.
e: you long for the good old days of back-yard nuclear testing and unfettered-by-needless-regulation waste disposal.
f: you are a Mormon who longs for the church pre-1976.

If you are under 40 and vote Republican, please do the right thing, and move to a white columned estate in Virginia. Or a trailer in South Carolina.
Utah only bleeds red; when it thinks, its color is solid blue.

You represent the Far Left to a "T" - utterly sickening and disgusting -

You make it quite evident that you have no clue - and certainly no heritage of knowing what this country and the thousands of Americans who have died for our right to cast any vote have all been about.

Sorry Dorothy this is taken from the Texas Republician Platform:

Felony for gay marriage....

Marriage Licenses – We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple
and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such.
Homosexuality – We believe that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society, contributes to the breakdown
of the family unit, and leads to the spread of dangerous, communicable diseases. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the
fundamental, unchanging truths that have been
ordained by God, recognized by our country’s founders, and shared by the majority of Texans. Homosexuality must not be
presented as an acceptable “alternative” lifestyle in our public education and policy, nor should “family” be redefined to
include homosexual “couples.” We are opposed to any granting of special legal entitlements, refuse to recognize, or grant
special privileges including, but not limited to: marriage between persons of the same sex (regardless of state of origin),
custody of children by homosexuals, homosexual partner insurance or retirement benefits. We oppose any criminal or civil
penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values.
Texas Sodomy Statutes – We oppose the legalization of sodomy. We demand that Congress exercise its authority
granted by the U.S. Constitution to withhold jurisdiction from the federal courts from cases involving sodomy.

Thanks for practicing your freedom of speech. I hope the next presidential election finds The United States of America with a plethora of educated civic, minded, reasonable and trustworhty candidates. With the slim pickings we have been getting the last few years It's a wonder Utah blood hasn't turned purple. Thanks for reminding me why we have a volunteer army fighting for religious and political freedom all over the world. It is a shame that the leaders who have finally found the courage to exercise their freedom of speach in the political arena are made to apologize at the feet of the president and beg for mercy from their own party.Democrat and repblican alike: Here's for staning for something. I hope it is a joy to watch the greatest country on Earth crumble right from under our feet.

I still believe in the Pledge of Allegiance, the Declartion of Independance and the Bill of Rights. I hope all politcal parties will learn their hystory and do what is right for America what ever Americans determine that to be; it is our government you know.

Hope to see you at the polls in November, using your God given right to vote.

I did vote today, based on a recommendation I read here.

Dorrene, you better be right!

Did you step in the horse biscuit or the cow pie? Hope you didn't track either one into the house! I suppose tracking either one into the house might cover the stench of puke coming from this life long and very disgusted Republican.

Oz,

I suppose you mean you have been dissatisfied with Republicans, even though you are one?

Join the club. I find the only time I like Republicans is when they are out of power and talking about Democrats. (I believe in fact, that many Republicans do not want to be in the majority, because fund raising is so much better when they are not.)

Once they get power, invariably, they are no better that Democrats in this one party country of ours.

Somehow, when they get elected, they suddenly forget all they stood for, and one wonders why they ran in the first place.

I based my vote purely on Dorrene's recommendation. My wife didn't vote.

Does this mean you'll be joining me in voting for Sam Granato in November?

Yes, I am dissatisfied politically. One correction however, I am now an ex-republican and feel great about it. I finally had enough and threw my forty plus year support of the GOP out with the trash. With GOP carpetbagging candidates like Stuart Read on the ticket it was an easy choice to make. Ainta never gonna give the SOB's in the GOP another dime - I swear!

I think the problem that you point out about R's getting in office and then abandoning their constituents, especially in Utah, is a result of the so called "leadership" of the party. They demand that newly elected folks pledge their loyalty to said "leadership" over the people's interests. If the newly elected don't knuckle under and comply they get marginalized, have no ability to get anything done and are soon replaced in the next election by a more compliant foot soldier who will follow orders.

Pretty sad state of affairs in my opinion.

Nothing would shake this whole corrupt political system in Utah up more than for Grenato to win in November. I'm for sure going to vote for him - and Carroon too. Hell, I think I will do it twice cause I know it's going to feel great when I do!
