Salt Lake Crawler: Bad News For The DNews

Sad news indeed if the rumor turns out to be true

By Curmudgeon

Since we discuss the press here with some frequency, thought this might be of interest. A SLTrib columnist is reporting rumor/speculation that the DNews is about to collapse, lay off large numbers of staff, and publish only three days a week:
Bad news for DNews
More from SLWeekly:
Open container: Deseret News Layoffs
I am not fan of the DNews; but this would be sad news indeed if the rumor turns out to be true. The last thing Utah needs is fewer newspapers.

Now here's an idea worth looking into: warning labels for stories in newspapers. Someone in London came up with the idea.

Here are a few of the labels:

Warnig: Statistics, survey results, and/or equations in this article were sponsored by a PR company

Waring This article is basically just a press release, copied and pasted.

And, my personal favorite....

Warning To ensure future interviews with subject, important questions were not asked.

Obviously, they need to pay their tithing.

I don't know if Curm's post is intentionally related, but it is.

Deseret News is an example of an institution that has devolved into being a mouthpiece for a rotten establishment, in attempting to control and indoctrinate the populace to insure the continued benefits to the oligarchy.

And people pay for this to be delivered to their door?

The fact is, the DN, once a good newspaper, has been taken over by detrius and therefore has been readying itself for collapse for years.

Whether the time comes soon, or later, it must come, it should come, it is good that it comes.

The US is infested with businesses and organizations that have become so infested with parasites there is almost nothing left.

Let them die. Nature will make something better of the remains.

As for the deadwood than walk its hallways - how many investigative reports of the rot that is the Utah government have they done? They sit atop a volcano of sleaze and squak that they smell nothing - indeed - reporting there is nothing to be smelled at all.

And they wonder that they are as good as dead?

New study:

If you are anti- mosque at ground zero, anti gay marriage and anti amnesty for illegals, you are also 95% certain to have been raised in a family that did not support mixed-race marriages.

Just laughin'

I realize this rates very low on the priority scale ...

If you have a kid playing High School sports in Utah - the Deseret News is the Bible, the Encyclopedia, and the Almanac ...

Superb coverage ...

No, it doesn't rate low on the scale. Any paper not covering HS sports decently would be walking away from a lot of potential readers.

Off topic here, but there is a good article in today's (15Aug) Tribune about Ogden's horrid "Good Landlord" program.

http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/home/50103538-76/sambrano-avenue-ogden-park.html.csp

The real money quote from the article is from our very own and very venal, petty and law breaking chief of police:

'As for where someone on probation or parole should go, Greiner asks, “Why is that my responsibility?”'

This is the same piece of crap sub-human who flaunts the law, is found guilty and then arrogantly lets the tax payers of Ogden pick up the half a million dollar or so tab to defend his worthless ass and pay the substantial penalty.

Here's a live link to the Trib article Viktor noted above.

And yeah, I caught the line from Retired Chief/Acting Chief double-dip Greiner as well. He really is an SOB.

I didn't see the referenced quote from Greiner, but I agree with it anyway, as I agree with his quote that is in the article, and as I agree with the Good Landlord program generally. And I am a landlord.
