Results Are In For Our Second Mayoral Candidate Preference Poll

Once again we'll issue the disclaimer that this online political polling business is "all in fun." It WILL be fun however, won't it, comparing these data with tomorrow's "real life results"?

The results are in on this week's "Pre Primary Ogden Mayoral Candidate Preference Poll #2", which we've now shut down and removed from our WCF right sidebar. While we'll be the first to concede that these results are not "scientific" by any stretch of the definition, we believe that today's new poll numbers are still somewhat tantalizing, when compared with those of our earlier 8/2/11 "Pre Primary Ogden Mayor Possibilities Poll #1":

What's clear is that Mayoral candidate Mike Caldwell has been the big gainer. He's jumped from a 10% preference to 23% in the course of 40 days. Candidate Van Hooser, who led the pack with a 41% preference on 8/2/11, has now slipped to a 35% plurality. There's been some give and take among and between the other candidates too; but here are the raw results, without any further ado. Take 'em for what they're worth; and interpret 'em as you wish:
And once again we'll issue the disclaimer that this online political polling business is "all in fun." It will be fun however, won't it, comparing these data with tomorrow's "real life results"? You're all aware that tomorrow is the Ogden Municipal Primary Election polling date, right?

So now we'll zero in on the pregnant question... what (if anything) do our ever-savvy gentle readers make of these polling numbers? Could we be looking at Caldwell and Van Hooser moving on to the the November General Election?

Have at it O Gentle Ones...

Van Wagoner has gained almost as much as Caldwell, and far more as a percentage. The biggest loser is Hansen. These changes aren't surprising, given that Caldwell and Van Wagoner had little name recognition coming into the race and have since made up for that. Also, Van Wagoner is portraying himself somewhat as a populist, going after Hansen's supporters.

Remembering the difficulties presented by Matthew Godfrey and his supporters last election(2007) perhaps now would be a good time to remind people what is needed at the polls to vote for your favored candidate.

I'ts pretty simple, wethinks, Rulon.  When you go to cast out the demons from Ogden  Ogden City government, bring along at least one government issued picture ID (more's better, of course.)   There's nothing better for credibility like the county-issued voter registration card, too, one of which I received in the mail last month.

Provisional ballots are easy.  If your poll workers tell you you don't show up on the voter records... demand a provisional ballot.

Election eve advice:

    1. To those [wisely] planning to vote as I am:  I remind you that with so many candidates in the field, elevation to the run-off may be decided by just a handful of votes, and so your vote in this primary may have more of an impact, much more, than a single vote normally does. Vote.

    2. To those [unwisely] planning not to vote as I am:   I remind you that thousands of votes will be cast tomorrow, and so, realistically, your vote isn't going to make any difference. It'd be foolish to waste your time standing  on line to cast a vote that won't  matter. Play it smart. Go fishin'.

I seem to remember some problems last mayoral election on whether provisional ballots should be filled out in ink or pencil.

Good point, BR.  When you go to vote tomottow, don't let either  a Godfreyite or Caldwell operative (pretty much the same thing, actually) persuade you to cast your vote in "pencil."

I was just graced with the second robocall (on my cell phone) since Friday from Brandon Stephenson. The first was Brandon tooting his own horn and the second was Rick Safsten telling me why I should vote for commrade Stephenson.

Between the calls, all of the ugly signs around town and the junk mail filling up my mail box, I will be happy when election season is over...and even happier in January when Godfrey is no longer deciding what is best for my community.

Rudi,  a friend of ours went  to vote in 2007 when all the funny stuff was pulled by Godfrey's campaign team, and she had her Weber County issued registration card with her and showed it to the judges and they still wouldn't let her vote -- told her she had to have a utility bill in her name that proved she lived at that address.  Our utility bills are in my husband's name as most utility bills are in the husband's name.  She had her driver's license and they still wouldn't let her vote, so she called me.  I called Neil Hansen and the TV stations and two of them showed up at the school.  On her fourth try with the TV cameras there, they gave her a provisional ballot which was wrong -- it should have been a regular ballot because she voted in 2005 in that same precinct and was on the rolls.

Got a robocall from John Thompson, which is rather amusing since he is the LEAST likely candidate to win.  Investing in a haircut would have got him more votes than this late tactic.

Sure it was John? I got a robocall from city council candidate Stephen Thompson.

How quickly are the results reported? Any place online to see a realtime
reporting of the counts?

You'll be able to follow the realtime reporting right here on Weber County Forum, after the polls close tomorrow at 8:00 p.m.

When the New World Order is established and I, of course, am made Governor General of North America, robo calls will be outlawed, along with  artificial turf, aluminum bats and the designated hitter rule.  Ya just gotta have some standards.

You are probably right.  Sorry for disparaging my favorite candidate/muppet, Animal.
