Nothing But Good in MattGodfreyWorld

Bullet-proof vests, kevlar helmets and four-wheel drive remain basic necessities in Emerald City, however

By Disgusted

I don't know about the rest of you, but it seems to me that Ogden is sure seeing its fair share of criminal activity lately. These last few weeks have been terrible.

But hey; according to Godfrey, crime is down.

Also, snow removal services must have been cut back 'cause the roads are sure horrible out there. I could understand the lack of attention to the roads if it had snowed all day, but it was sunny from about 10:00 am on. No excuse other than Godfrey cutting back on the city providing the services.

Naysayer! Ogden City needs to save every dime it has, so's we can invest $10 million in the spring, for Godfrey's golf course makeoever.

If you get killed in the meantime, it's your own damned fault for leaving your house during the winter.

Why won't the plow trucks dump the gravel? They're full of it ...

So is this whole fiasco!

Not just fiscal bullshit, we're talking fatal bullshit ...

Bill Parker for Mayor.

Anyone but Godfrey for Mayor!

Hey - it's not just Ogden City ... the more traveled, state maintained streets are the worst ...

No political aspirations here - I inhaled ...

At least you dont lie Bill

About those crime statistics...

Some time ago, I mentioned to Rudi that crime has a lot more to do with the population of 14 to 27 year olds than any other factor.

This week's Economist has a graph that shows the data pretty clearly. (It's about a third of the way down the page, titled "It's the same the world over.")

I also wonder how much property damage, injury and loss of life are caused by a dollar not spent on plowing/sanding roads vs. a dollar not spent on police. Not saying one way or the other, just wondering.

Typical republican, lie and deny...

Lie and Deny:

Just like what Commissioner Zagmaster did. She goes to all the Police functions saying she's pro law enforcement. Then stabbs them in the back voting agaisnt their COLA retirement.

What a B!tch, just like Sara Palin.

Who the hell is Parker?

Wow Tom. Talk about some built up rage. If you don't want to hear what others have to say, this is the wrong website for you. The people are right to complain about the roads. I've never driven in worse conditions a day after a storm. I think one persons life is worth dropping a bit of salt, but what do I know. You referred to the Savior in you post, maybe a person dying in an accident is His plan. Merry Christmas to you!

Yesterday, 26 Dec, I traveled roads in Ogden, Riverdale, and Roy - absolutely lousy plowing jobs in all three cities.

Yeah, who is Bill Parker?

I'm nobody ... and would have preferred to keep it that way ...

Bill Parker

If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve.

Maybe you need to think about this a little more, Bill.

You'd be the Perfect Ogden City Mayor in 2011.

You're a successful Ogden businessman. Also smart as a whip. You're also humane, unlike the little nitwit on nine. Moreover... you've run a successful and well regarded business in Ogden through all the hard times.

Something to think about, eh Bill?

Give me the word, and I'll start designing the lawn signs.

streets are shitty all over, not just an Ogden issue.

I totally agree with ZZZ

Rudi:

You failed to ask the prospective candidate the most important question: will he agree that Ogden needs to sell its largest and most popular park in order to finance a part of a public flatland gondola ride for the tourists between down town and WSU? Only those answering "Yes, yes, yes, or Paris Hilton and her entourage won't come to play glow-in-the-dark golf at The Junction" can possibly win the support of the Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce leadership and thus be elected.

City or State slick roads ... a HUGE Hail Mary everyone will be safe ...

If you drink, don't drive ... if you need a ride home, leave a post - we'll come get you ...

C'mon people now, smile on your brother, everybody get together, try to love one another right now ...

I love you Ogden ...

two observations

drove to layton today. once you cross the weber/davis county lines streets got markedly better. from what i could see today ogden city streets saw no additional efforts by the streets department to improve the road conditions.

noticed in the paper today on the back of the a section a full page ad for the "toads fun zone" located at 1690 w 400 north in ogden. all the same trappings as the rec center. indoor miniature golf climbing wall arcade games and more. also have come to realize that there is a similar type of business in roy at the site of the old bowling alley. seems to me that the concept of having something unique to drawing people from the outskirts of ogden to our downtown has been made nullified by these similar establishments. wonder how long it will be before the rec center tenant want to renegotiate his contract or backs out of his contract with the city because hes not getting the draw he was counting on. ogden will then learn the value of a single use building that no one else wants to rent and that residents will be stuck with paying for in its entirety without the benefit of collecting any rent. you think the old mall was expensive for the city wait and see about this one.

godfrey youre such a business visionary.

The City plow drivers worked Christmas Eve and all day Christmas and all you can do is coplain because the streets are not bone dry. Where do you think you live? the next time you're down around 29th and Wall stop in and take a look at the crap these guys have to work with. Most of it is way past it's safe useful life and none of it is in perfect operating order. All in all, I'd say Ogden City crews do a remarkable job. I wonder how passable your sidewalks are in front of your home that YOU are responsible to keep clear of snow.

Ward-I saw one of the city's trucks being towed yesterday. Not replacing an aging fleet may make a budget look good but at some point the maintenance costs get out of control.

We are not complaining about the Ogden City employees, but the priorities that the little guy on the ninth floor has.

He has squandered a budget surplus, and has managed to make city services less then what the tax payers are expecting.

If you want proof just look at the Fire Department, they cant get anyone to apply for a lateral transfer for the position of Paramedic.

Let's face it Godfrey has started to screw his self into a corner.

WhatWardRUin

my comments are not directed at the city employees. please understand i have nothing but respect for most of the employees in ogden. i have no respect at all for the mayor and how he has cut the services to the residents in order to fund his visions.

WhatWard:

Ditto to the above.

I am not complaining about the work the city employees do. Fire, police, water, waste, other services -- in my experience, all do a fine job with very little.

I am questioning priorities when they don't pay these employees a living wage, when the budget for overtime is cut (I would expect to be paid extra for working Christmas Day, for example), and when there isn't even money to buy frickin' salt and/or run the plows.

Having a city with decaying infrastructure and a brand-new glow-in-the-dark miniature golf facility is just plain stupid. That's what I'm saying.

Disgusted: I also noticed the ad and they are open Sunday from 10-7. Is kiddyland at the Junction open on Sunday?
Newgate Mall also has an arcade, Nickelcade on Riverdale, so these other venues compete with easy parking and other games.
I hope the city can re-coup something if the business do fold.
I also see where Golds still owns the old gym on 25th. At least we are still getting taxrevenue on that building.

WhatWardRUin said...

I appreciate your clarification on the snowplowing. The next City budget is projected to start out 12-15% below last years budget, so you can plan on even more service reductions and a substantial employee lay-off. Godfrey and Patterson have been absolutely reckless in their running of our City, and it is now time to pay the piper. Their pet projects like the campground, train car cafe, velodrome and ice tower have all been without public approval and at the expense of previously funded and approved projects and programs. Shame on these two for what they have done to Ogden.

Anonymous said...

No preventative maintenance = disastrous future looming over our heads.

Oops, nevermind, almost forgot. When the Mayor has spoken, the thinking has been done.

Anonymous said...

The only way that the fire department can reduce the budget any further is to take one of the engines out of service. The plan is to take Engine 1 out of service if needed. Central Ogden may get reduced fire protection but at least The Hole gets a new place to sell donuts, right?

today the snow plows hit the streets but you wouldnt know it in the snow packed residential streets. they were plowing the relatively cleared up wall ave and 25th st in the afternoon.
