Standard-Examiner: Van Hooser Backs Caldwall for Ogden Mayor

Lots to talk about this morning concerning what could amount to an endorsement which could trigger a sea-change in Ogden City mayoral candidate support

There's highly significant news this morning in the 2011 Ogden City Mayoral Election race, wethinks, as Mr. Schwebke breaks the story to its hard-copy readership that Susan Van Hooser, a mayoral candidate who finished a close third (but nevertheless out of the running) in the September 13, 2011 Primary, "announced Saturday she's supporting Mike Caldwell for mayor in the Nov. 8 general election":
Ms. Van Hooser's been Brandon Stephenson's council colleague since September of 2006, when the Council appointed Van Hooser to fill Bill Glasmann's vacated At Large "A" Seat. She's been rubbing elbows with Stephensen on and off for most of the time since then. She knows Brandon as well as anyone in government knows Brandon. Yet when it comes time for an endorsement, who does she endorse? She gives her ringing endorsement to the newcomer, Mike Caldwell; that's who.

So what does that tell ya's about Brandon, O Gentle Ones?

That's it for now. Who'll be the first to throw in their own 2¢? Within the group of WCF readers who supported Van Hooser in the primary race, how many of you will follow Van Hooser's lead and jump aboard the Caldwell bandwagon? If not; why not? Lots to talk about this morning concerning what could amount to an endorsement which could trigger a sea-change in Ogden City mayoral candidate support.

Don't let the cat get your tongues.

I've gotten to know Susie by working with her on 3 campaigns. There are few people with as much integrity as she has. I kind of expected her to endorse neither candidate, but if she endorses Mike Caldwell, he has my vote.

You’re right, Rudi and Ogden Lover – it speaks volumes that Susie is throwing her support behind Mike Caldwell.  His response to that was laughable -- as I told Harry the reason that that they disagreed was because he whole-heartedly supported everything that the Mayor wanted and voted to spend taxpayer money on foolish projects.  When anyone has asked me for whom they should vote I have told them Mike Caldwell and given them about the same reasons that Susie mentioned.   When you work with someone for several years, you get to know them pretty well.  People should really ask why two fellow council members do not support him and why the council  never elected him to council chair or vice chair in eight years.

Having managed this last campaign with Susie, I can tell you, she has learned the value of building the right team to improve Ogden City.  She met with both Brandon and Mike and discussed the city and how best to move us all forward.  In the end she chose to support Mike as she felt comfortable he would be better suited to repair the many strained relationships the city has.  This is crucial if her plans for regional transportation and regional marketing was to be implemented quickly and effectively.

I beleive she made the right choice and will follow her lead.  If Mike surrounds himself with the right people there is no reason Ogden cannot leapfrog in improvement.  Susie will clearly be one of his advisers and that brings me great comfort.

If Caldwell is OK for Susie, whom I highly respect, I'll take her lead and vote Caldwell on November 8.

Boy, how quickly people forget. It was just August 8 2011 that Ms. Katherine  Pearson wrote to the S-E and praised Matthew Godfrey and suggested writing in his name for mayor. Who will stand with her and write in his name for mayor?

A new set of financial disclosure statements is now posted on the city's web site:

Caldwell has raised an additional $19,650; Stephenson only $1890.

Thanks, Dan.  I've added all the financial info to each active
candidate's Election Module Sidebar link, and will finish the rest just
as soon as the Buccaneers put the final nail in the Colt's coffin in
about 2 hours.... heheheh.

I'll also plan to put up a full article on the latest financial contributions issues in the morning.

Thanks in the meantime for the hot-off-the-press raw data!
