Bill O'Reilly: A Case Study in Cognitive Dissonance

Re the current "GOP Intelligentsia": It only hurts when we laugh

Interesting video clip from last night's Comedy Central "The Daily Show," wherein host Jon Stewart lampoons "Faux News" talking head buffoon Bill O'Reilly, who, in one fascinating uncut segment, brags about Faux News "celebrity ambushes," and then inexplicably launches into a smarmy self-righteous rant about "defending" celebrities' "rights to privacy":

Seeing is believing:

We only mention this because some folks are saying, that in the absence of any definable leadership within the now disarrayed National Republican Party, morons like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Bill O'Reilly (and Sarah Palin, of course) represent the intelligentsia of U.S. Republican Party leadership.

Speaking as an old-guard GOP warhorse, with ideological roots going back to genuine intellectuals like Barry Goldwater and Bill Buckley, we'll just say this:

It only hurts when we laugh.

Hey Good NEWS Dorthy.
Rep. Hansen hb49 passed the house today and I was shocked to see all the republicans that voted against this bill. I have to laugh when they all say they (the republicans)are for our constitutional rights, except for when it comes to voting, then we can and will oppress your vote by challenging you right to cast a ballot.
Good job Rep. Hansen. Keep up the good work, you maybe the only democrat north of Salt lake. But your the best one north of salt lake.

O'Reilly mocking of Helen Thomas who has more class in her pinky finger than O'Reilly, Ann Coulter and Rush. It shows just how low they have sunk, only a matter of time before he is caught using drugs just like Rush.

I'm no fan of O'Reilly. Although I agree with him at times, he's too much of a self-righteous blowhard for my taste. But there's a huge difference between investigative journalism (even if it is an "ambush") and constant harrassment of a celebrity. John Stewart is hilarious, but he's still pushing his own political agenda and sadly a lot of people actually watch the Daily Show for "news".

But to the point, now we're left with a vapid GOP that is a shell of its former self, whose agenda is best articulated by talk show hosts, and a democratic party hell bent on massive social programs. Dell Schanze is looking less crazy every day.

We would just like to make note of the mention of our spiritual leader, one William F. Buckley, on the electronic pages of this forum.

Kudos to the writer of this screed for keeping the conservative flame of the late wordsmith alive.

Nice.

We love this town.
