Std-Ex Guest Commentary: Mount Ogden Golf Course is Played Often

If it ain't broken, don't reckon you need to worry bout fixin' it

Just to kick off our end of week Weber County Forum discussion, we're delighted to highlight this morning's Standard-Examiner guest commentary, by Catherine Feeny, a life-long Ogden resident who has been a warhorse local political activist since the time your blogmeister was in kneepants, and Boss Godfrey was merely a twinkle in his daddy's eye:
Mount Ogden Golf Course is played often
The author provides her own comparative data relative to golf course usage in the Ogden area, together with some common sense commentary and analysis, along with sage advice to Boss Godfrey, in connection with his soon to be proposed $70 million+ golf course makeoever:

"Skip the devious subterfuge,"
admonishes Mrs. Feeny.

To sum it all up, we'll invoke one of our standby sayings from our collection of cowboy wisdom axioms: "If it ain't broken, don't reckon you need to worry bout fixin' it."

Reader comments are invited as always. And be nice. Suffice it to say that Mrs. Feeny happens to be a VERY special friend of ours.

Tracking cars and having real data is what the City Council should demand before any more tax payers money is spent on re-design, trips for committee members, and unknown expenses that seems to elude the current mayors camp. We are tired of unanswered questions, where the money comes from, anonymous donors for money spent on un-authorized city projects, un-named promoters, and promised backers that never perform.

Again time for the City Council to stand up to the mayor and deny any funding, $70M estimate to resolve a $250K supposedly yearly debt, to cover these pipe dreams.

The City Council was elected to represent the citizens of Ogden, not the developers dream city with handouts, incentives, RAMP funds and back doors deals for friends, out of state investors and campaign contributors.

What a line ... sure to become a WCF classic ...

Asking the Godfrey administration to "skip the devious subterfuge" is like asking a dog not to lick its own butt. But then I guess that's not really fair to the dog, comparing him to something so filthy and disgusting...

Just back for the rain forest; we still love this town.

Personally, we just dislike the idea of using public land to create what will amount to a gated community on the hill side.

Especially when there are many fine condos for sale downtown.

And I hear Mrs. Feeny has handsome and smart children as well.

Her "car count comparison" and co-relation (no pun intended) makes one wonder about the book keeping at Ogden Valley and the auditor's veracity, assuming there is one involved.

Nice bit of grass roots and common sense reporting we all can understand. Wonder if the Ogden City Council will "get it"?

Good on ya "Mrs. Catherine".

You go Girl. Pin the Mayor's ears back.

Facts and figures, he won't let those get in the way of his version of reality.

At least the availibity of credit should hold up any more plans until he is gone, and we are left shaking our heads asking "what happened to the last 12 years"?

Great guest commentary, Kay!! You brought a smile to my face this morning, thanks.

Thank you Catherine Feeny for a breath of fresh air and a liberal dose of good old fashioned common sense. A car count may not be high tech but it is certainly effective. Great job!

A big thanks to Mrs. Feeny for putting in the time required to document these numbers, and point out yet another Godfreyite lie.

Interesting that Mrs. Feeny has been a stalwart in the Weber County Republican party for many years yet she can see through the BS, lies and manipulations laid out daily by our Lil Lord - a Republican!

Ogden owes a lot to the Feeny's and the Farr's, they have been instrumental in the progress of Ogden every since the very beginning of the town.

Mt Ogden golf cource is the best thing that has happened to Ogden.

Republican Mayor Godfrey acting like a typical republican, trying to sell it off to his business buddies.

Because republicans don't know how to run anything. Except running it off a cliff

I notice she is another rebel rousing member of the radical Weber County Heritage Foundation. This wild bunch of women (and men?) need to be reigned in!

What a ridiculous piece of garbage this commentary is. As dap said, "Cars don't play golf." Quite possibly the worst study I've ever seen. I'm quite sure October and November are the proper months to measure from, certainly not if you're going to compare Mt. Ogden to El Monte. Anyone who has played El Monte in the fall or early spring, knows the canyon winds are stronger, colder, and last longer into the day. There's no mention of what time of day she took these very accurate and scientific counts. Count golfers, not cars.

It seems like actual player data could be easily obtained on both courses.

Whoops, lost my mind there for a second before I realized any numbers would be filtered through the notoriously corrupt Godfrey gang who obviously have an agenda of their own over Mount Ogden.

boo,
It's better than the studies done by the City, ie no real ones, just BS.

Mark my words, Boo. Despite his infantile pleading, the city council will not approve Godfrey's Grand scheme for a $70 million MOGC remodel. He'll be lucky if the council will be able to come up with sufficient funds for minor repairs. We're in the middle of the deepest recession since the Great Depression; and it's unlikely that the economic situation will pick up any time soon. Sensible people know this already.

Godfrey still has his two previous Grand Schemes (the Junction and River Projects)languishing and costing the taxpayers millions of dollars per year.

The council will treat him as the immature child that he is, and tell him to finish the two big projects that he started, before he embarks upon another multimillion dollar pipe dream.

Write this down so you don't forget it.

Write it down

I wish I had the same level of confidence in the Council that you do. Unfortunately they have a long sad history of buckling under to the petty little tyrant.
