Wake us up in November when it's all over
Aha! Just as foreshadowed in this November 2010 Standard-Examiner story, Godfrey sock puppet Brandon Stephenson announces his 2011 Ogden Mayoral candidacy, via this morning's blockbuster Michael McFall writeup:
And now that Brandon has thrown his hat into the ring, here's how we at Weber County Forum see the 2011 Mayoral race shaping up:
Wake us up in November when it's all over.

Considering that Mr. Stephenson, while on the Council, supported the Godfrey Flatland Gondola [to be built at public expense], the extra floors on the Junction office block on grounds they'd be easy to lease [happily denied by the rest of the Council], the Mayor's choice of Mr. Lesham to be prime developer of the [still moribund] River Project, the Year Round Outdoor Down Town Ice Climbing Tower [to be built at public expense], and so much more, it seems fair to conclude that Mr. Stephenson's business judgment is as bad as the Mayor's.
Now there's a scary thought....
Amy Wicks for mayor...
While Amy does a lot of good working for the Shaken Baby Syndrome Foundation, she could do a tremendous amount of good for Ogden if she would run for Mayor.
And let's not forget Stephenson's vote against the original nondiscrimination ordinance. Whatever else the man is, he is not a profile in courage.
Another politican in search of the ever elusive "grant money". If the candidate is serious about getting more grant money for Ogden and police he could replace Jon Greiner as Chief of police. That would eliminate double dipping, save on defending Greiner on his many appeals of the Hatch Act and help Ogden qualify for various federal funding.
Does this mean that Mattie is not running and has given his honest and humble approval to Brandon to carry on this insane agenda of turning Ogden into Mazatlan Disneyland? Has the torch been passed and a back room deal cut that once Mattie is out, he can come back at $100 Grand a year as an advisor or lobbist for the new mayor? It would be as if he never left. Oh Boy!
Maybe Sephenson is throwing his hat into the ring as an attempt to dilute the anti-Godfrey vote? It is hard to believe that Stephenson would not be in lock step with Godfrey as he has loyally been for as long as he has been on the council. Godfrey is this lame brained idiot's guru and I doubt if he would make any move that Godfrey didn't order, or at least approve of.
Anyone know the odds on whether Blain Johnson will be his campaign manager? LOL
Agree with Oz..dialuting votes was the first thing that came into my mind. Stephenson in no way is a credible threat to Godfrey..but he could draw votes from weaker or less well known candidates that would run against Lord Gadfly.
Shades of the Greiner/Reid run off with the potential for another last minute switch-a-roo.
one who knows:
that paints a picture of what's happening in Russia - Putin is Medvedev's top advisor, but who do you think is really in charge?
Scary model for Ogden.

Wasn't there another candidate in today's paper (Tue)? All this speculation about a weakened Godfrey seems to suggest NOW is the time for someone in this WCF cabal to file for Mayor and give it a run.
The other candidate running for Mayor is Jonny Ballard. He is the community development manager for the city I believe. So there is an opportunity for a change of insanity if Ballard can get out there and campaign. We will see.
How is this Ballard fellow any different from his boss? Isn't he the genius behind the plan last autumn to pollute our air by burning the homes in the River Project to save Gadi Leshem a few $$$?
No Ballard actually said that there was no financial difference in either method and that burning did not make sense. The original idea came from the fire chief and they burned a house as part of a training exercise. Just a touch of fact checking goes a long long way. Just because the man is his boss does not mean he is lock step with him. The is an article somewhere that mentions the fact Ballard has asthma.
