Farmer's Market Season Kickoff Draws Thousands of Visitors

An invitation to attendees to chime in with their own impressions and observations

The Standard-Examiner carries a short Top of Utah section article this morning, reporting on yesterday's 25th Street Farmer's Market season opening, where 5,000 visitors were expected to be in attendance.

Read Mitch Shaw's full story here.

If any Weber County Forum readers happened to attend yesterday's summer kickoff event, we invite you to chime in with your impressions and observations. We think it would be interesting to hear how it all went.

It'll never be the same without Amy's bunny.

Delighted it got off to a good start, and that the damage done by the merchants group that damn near killed it several years ago when they tried to run the artists out of the park has been overcome. The summer market is one of the real pleasures of summer weekends in Ogden.

A small caveat: the SE did not say an estimated 5K attended. It say Market officials expected at least 5K to attend. Possibly more did attend. I hope so. But "estimated attendance" and "anticipated attendance" is not quite the same thing.

Thanks for the correction, Curm. I've accordingly edited the article text above.

One of the glories of online media... errors can be corrected on the spot.

We got there at about 11AM. The place was very busy, even though most of the produce was either already sold or isn't yet ready for market. A large group was sitting on the grass listening to music and watching the dancing horse.

It would be nice if the walking area (currently just the sidewalk) were wider. Would it be too hard on the grass to have more space? At times it's really difficult to weave through the crowds or to see all that's being offered without holding up traffic.

Good news, the new Iggy's at the Junction is open on Sunday. Maybe the other venues will see how well they do staying open when people are off work, especially on a Sunday.
I was begining to think being closed on Sunday was a condition for a Junction lease.

Is Sonoran Grill open Sundays too?

According to thesonoragrill.com, it is not open on Sundays.

But three cheers for Iggy's. Despite my bias in favor of 25th St., I'll make a point of dining there some Sunday.
