Final, Final Weber County Official Election Results

Election 2008 "candidate predictor awards" begin to trickle in

For those Weber County readers who've been sitting on the edges of their seats, chomping their fingernails, and waiting in painful suspense, we're delighted to find that Weber County Clerk Alan McEwan has within the last day finally posted the final and official Weber County 2008 General Election vote tallies on the Weber County Government website. Here's the link:

Weber County Official Results

The release of this information of course compels us to follow out own homework assignment, and to crunch the numbers and determine which of the seven Weber County Forum readers who participated in our 2008 Election Prediction Contest enjoy bragging rights as WCF's best election candidate picker(s). Here are the results so far;

Grand Prize Winner: Gentle reader Monotreme. Yes, the Grand Prize goes to a humble neuroscientist and regular poster and contributor, who claims an affinity with strange mammals who lay eggs. No eggs were laid however in this instance. Gentle Monotreme took a scientific approach and broadly predicted that Utah Republican candidates in Weber County wouldn't be much threatened by Democratic candidates riding in on Barack Obama's locally-suspect "long coattails." He cannily picked a typical Utah 60/40 Republican/Democrat split, thus calling winners in all Utah races, mercifully sparing us the gruelling effort of calculating percentage tie-breakers.

Best predictor in the House Leg 10 race: Our friend, South Ogden blogger BenJoe, wins this category hands down. In a pdf file sent in a private email prior to the closing of our little contest, BenJoe dang near hit the nail right on the head, with his prediction that GOP political newcomer Brent Willis would win his race against Boss Godfrey's father-in law, Edgar "Addled Ed" Allen, with 51% of the vote. As it turns out in the official results, BenJoe was off by a mere .12 percent.

We await the comments of Ogden's Gondolists and Godfreyites to tell us how "bummed out" they are about this. Except for the re-election of Boss Godfrey's friggin cousin, Godfrey surrogates sucked hind tit this year. Hopefully we'll hear from the Geigers, or The G-Train, who was stupid enough to host GOP House Leg. 9 candidate Jeremy Peterson's campaign from her Godfreyite real estate office, which even today displays Lift Ogden Gondola lawn signs in several street-facing windows.

The State Electons office hasn't yet released final results on the Utah Elections website. We'll get back with the cumulative awards for statewide election races once they catch up.

We fully intend to give other Weber County Forum readers who entered the contest FULL BRAGGING RIGHTS, once this information is released.

Rudi,

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but Bob Geiger told me that you block him from posting from his work office. Personally, I feel he adds to the debate here and I miss hearing from him. In addition, I always find it entertaining to hear from his father and other such folk.

Anyway, you say hopefully we'll hear from them, but how can we?

(After the last CC meeting Bob and I both attended we talked for about 1.5 hours. I believe we both still think the same way we did before but it was very entertaining nonetheless.)

I suspect you have a good reason, but I just thought I'd mention it . . .

By the way, the meeting between the city council and the Landmarks commission you mentioned is this Tuesday after the council meeting. I would have liked to attend that, so I could speak at the end of the council meeting and express my discomfort with the idea that the council needs to find common ground with the Landmarks Commission.

In fact, if the mayor, staff and certain commission members would stop misleading the other LC members and trying to bamboozle and browbeat the council, there would already be common ground, since I think most downtowners, the LC, the CC, me, and Bob Geiger for that matter all want the same thing. But we disagree on how to get there.

Since I can't go to the meeting however, if Bob is there I hope he knows I am thinking of him and wish I could be there. And Bob, say hi to Stevie for me.

Yes, that's true. The Descente website remains blocked, and will remain blocked.

But in truth, Little Bobby has proven over the years to be one of the most egregious trolls who's ever posted on this blog.

Little Bobby knows how to find a computer that isn't blocked; and he still posts here intermittently, often under the handle banned handle"anonymous." He's told me privately he does this, just to get under my skin.

He's proven himself to be a loose cannon. He's not nicknamed "short deck" without reason.

If he'd like to post here to advance his views... he knows exactly how to do it. When he gets out of line, his posts will be deleted, and his new IP addy will also be blocked.

The Descente site will also remain blocked. He's violated the Terms of Service of this blog far to often to be cut another pass.

And yes, David, I did take it the "wrong way."

In case you're unaware. I spend tremendous time and effort hosting this blog. Wasting endless hours playing board nanny isn't part of the deal.

If little Bobby wants to post something intelligent here... he knows how to do it.

Frankly, I won't hold my breath.

Rudi,

I respect your stance on blocking the Descente IP, but surely you must realize that there are other employees at Descente who might see your well hosted blog site an educational source?

Should you punish everyone there for the acts of one person?

As a blogger who's trying to host a robust community free speech website, I have several "easy" choices when I suffer a string of troll posts from one single site:

1) I can turn off comments entirely;

2) I can enable comments moderation, and free up comments once I've had time to vet them.

Either of the above solutions defeat the whole purpose of my site, which is to cultivate continuing and relatively unfettered community discussion. Either of the above solutions interrupts the flow of conversation of the 99% of the people who follow our decidedly liberal posting policy.

The more rational alternative is to block those few sites sites where the vast bulk of troll posts originate.

How many of the 7 or so Descente minimum wage Descente employees, other than Curt and his idiot son have access to the Descente server anyway? If any of these "other" employees have problems, it seems to me they should take it up with their network administrator.

Take a wild guess how many Descente employees have access to their company server.

My guess is about two.

Blocking the offending site means I don't have to be wedded to my desktop or wireless notepad 24/7.

Seems an obvious solution to me. Running this blog is not my obligation, but rather a community service I offer to the people of Ogden, who would in my blog's absence have to rely upon the Standard-Examiner for all their information.

If you have problems with this, try running a blog that deals with controversial issues some time yourself.

It's easy to kibbitz, unless you've actually been forced to deal with the "troll" problem first-hand.

Thanks for the explaination. I don't doubt that trying to maintain order in a free speach blog can be very difficult.

I have fun checking in here and seeing what's hot and what's not in the great city of Ogden.

Cheers Rudy!

Hey what happened to the Dungeon anyway? right now it goes to a "toolshed" website?

RudiZink said...

Thanks for the kind words, curious, but... sorry...

Yer Busted!

If you're trying to log into WCF, and instead get redirected to the toolshed instead...

That means you're logging in from a blocked IP Addy.

There are very few of them that are blocked, BTW, fewer than a half-dozen... for now.

Rudi,

I'm not busted since I'm not anyone who has been blocked before. I just happen to have had access to a computer that has been.

I try to mind my Pints and Quarts which does prove to be difficult from time to time.

"I just happen to have had access to a computer that has been [banned]."

LOL!

Remember what your momma taught you!

"You're judged by the company you keep."

Would you care to name names, heheh?

Who exactly OWNS that banned computer, anyway?

Fess up!

;)

LOL

I hope you won't ban this computer based on what I've said. But I keep checking back making sure I'm not looking at the toolshed.

I'm taking the "fewer than a half-dozen... for now." as a serious statement.

I got to run for now and I'm hoping I can keep checking in.

This is a good blog though and no I'm not kissing up.

Oh and I did try that coffee shop down on Kiesle today and the coffee is good but the building it's housed in is what makes the place great - it has a sweet elevator.

Just pullin' yer chain, Curious.

You've "made your bones" here, and I do consider you to be one of the "good guys."

Nighty-night.

I breathed a real sigh of relief, learning tonight that Brent Wallis officially prevailed in House District 10.

It's nice to see a candidate win in Utah, when his whole campaign doesn't depend on the campaign plank: "I'm L.D.S."

Monotreme said...

Woo hoo!

I'm a'bragging away.

Brag, brag, brag.

Well.

That was fun.

Small Brag for House District 10.

Rudi,

I accept all your comments. And I looked up the definition of trolling.

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of provoking other users into an emotional response or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

I do appreciate this blog and do always consider myself to be a guest in somebody else's space. Thanks for providing the space. I have often thought, "I don't know how Rudi does it, but I'm glad he does."

. . . and I would add, that I consider myself to be a rather outspoken critic of many of the mayor's policies, both in writing and verbally. For me, it's not personal, it's about the policies.

Moreover, if Bob feels spending time with me is for the purpose of persuading me to his viewpoint, I would candidly observe that I view that as an unlikely outcome. In fact, it is more likely I will persaude him.

People who I know might want to know that.

Can we link to Ed Allens or Pattersons campaign contributors so we can see who supported their failed election. It costs a lot for bill boards, large signs, and if Mayor Godfrey paid for his in-laws campaign out of his free money campaign war chest. Also like to see if any PAC money came from questionable sources.

Curious,

Ed Allen campaign report is here: http://globe.utah.gov/allcont/allcont.aspx?CandidateID=4439&sort=name

Jeremy Peterson is here: http://globe.utah.gov/allcont/allcont.aspx?CandidateID=4433&sort=name

Thanks Fly.
How many actual jobs are in Ogden with Descente and Ameri-Sports since it seems to be just management.
